Default Do you think Microsoft pays for exclusivity for games like Steins;Gate?

I'm playing Steins;Gate on PSP right now and find myself wishing I could play it in 1080 on my PS3. Why did 5bp only support 360 up until now? Their upcoming Dunamis15, Broken Arrow, and Robotic Notes are coming to PS3 also. Do you think 5bp simply didn't see an audience for visual novels among the PS3 fanbase up until now? Oh yea, the upcoming Ever17 remake from 5bp is 360 only!

Cave only brings out shooters for 360. Could Microsoft be paying them?! But Cave did once say they have a more hardcore loyal fanbase on the 360 than on the PS3 for shmups. But if you consider that Cyberfront brought out the shmup Mamoru-kun ha Norowarete Shimatta for PS3 also, I think Cave could also make money on PS3. But I guess Cave is doing just fine on the IOS now.

Then Aquaplus goes the completely opposite direction. They support only the PS3. Is Sony paying them for exclusivity? True Tears, True Tears 2, White Album, Utawarerumono 2, To Heart 2 DX Plus, etc.

Angry I am title, got a problem with that?

Microsoft does pay some companies for exclusives, but they usually pay for a 1 year exclusive, after which the developer can port their game to another platform should they wish to do so.

I am not sure if Microsoft have paid developers to bring galge to the Xbox360 when it was lunched, but I honestly doubt that they are still doing it. The number of units sold of Xbox360 in Japan is low and doesn't seem to be raising anytime soon.

any way, does anyone know if there are some numbers showing the exclusive VNs sold on each platform (Xbox360, PSP and PS3)? I am interested to know if the platform did matter to the erogamer or if they simply bought all 3 platforms?

Good point, Bioshock and Mass Effect started out on XBOX likely due to paid exclusivity. Tales of Symphonia, Vesperia, Graces all started on non-Sony consoles, but all sold significantly better upon being ported to the PS2/PS3.

5bp bringing Dunamis15, Robotic Notes and Broken Arrow to PS3, but not Ever17? A little strange, can't help but wonder what the business decision behind that is.

428's case is also interesting. Starting out as a Wii exclusive, then being ported to PS3 and PSP, and the iOS soon, but not to the 360(unlike most of 5bp's works which go for the 360 and skip the PS3).

As for sales, I too am interested in how much better or worse than PS3 version of Clannad sold compared to the 360 version. If it did well, then other developers can see the profit in porting their 360 visual novels to the PS3.

It's just cheaper and easier to develop for the 360. No other particular reason.

This topic is so 2009. It doesn't matter anymore.

None of this matters because Microsoft don't do that anymore even if they once did. Microsoft has abandoned the Japan market a long long time ago. The PS2 sells better than the X360 in Japan.

In fact, MS has abandoned their console altogether.
The number of exclusives coming out for the X360 globally,... I can count on three fingers. Halo, Halo and Forza. (excluding Kinect games)

Microsoft just doesn't care anymore. They're not even worth talking about.

I'm not sure if you're just a hipster or are simply misinformed. Either way, MS isn't worth talking about more so because they don't have much to do with whether a VN comes out on a console or not (usually does if the developer wants it to.)

If no more good games for the 360 came out, that would be sad, but still I wouldn't care. Because I like Dream Club so much! Basically once I get every girl in Dream Club & Dream Club Zero that will be worth the whole price of the console right there.
It's been a big hit with my anime-oriented friends too, I speed-translate it for them on-the-fly when they visit.
