Default A new translation compendium - The Translation Library

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let people know about my new site the Translation Library. Basically it is an online compendium, which will seek to catalogue the fan translation of visual novels and games, from their native Japanese into English.

Update: The Translation Library has moved to new hosting (kindly provided by Ayu) at Blinky.net. In addition I have updated the site to remove spelling errors, altered translator titles and release dates per request and added the titles suggested via email / forum to the database.

New Link: http://translationlibrary.blicky.net

"25/01: Another complete update of the database. Several new projects have been added (under both Visual Novels and Japanese Games), many percentages were updated and a few links were changed."

It was inspired by Shii’s visual novel website which I followed for many years. As he no longer has the time to devote to following fan translation, I hope to fill the void; and continue to expand on his initiative.

I hope you find my website helpful and informative. If you have any comments or suggestions for improvement relating to this site please feel free to contact me via email at:
translationlibrary@hotmail.com

Damn, I'm so tired of mentoning that tenshi no inai 12 gatsu is not stalled. Looks like people are just plainly refusing to accept it. Contents are older than Shii's.

Perhaps a search function or having an option to browse by letter might make the site more user friendly.

Make a separate tab for dojin games cause there is a mountain of them.

Sorry about the misleading content LoSs, I have updated the information on tenshi no inai 12 gatsu accordingly.

NTX that’s a great idea I’ll add an A-Z listing for quick reference on my next revision (within the week), thankyou for your suggestion. A Doujin tag sounds like a good idea too, thanks for that LoSs, I’ll add it to the to-do list.

Thanks for your suggestions guys,

A couple of otome game translations that aren't well known of:

Under the Moon
Ijiwaru My Master

- both these don't have websites yet, but progress can be followed here: http://forum.my-neoromance.com/index...pic=1974&st=20

And yeah, a search option would be nice.

G-Senjou no Maou is being translated by Aegis, not Amaterasu.

Also, there's no space in TLWiki.

Also, 07th Expansion, not 7th Expansion.

Please put Chaos;Head under completed. Its release date was 12/31/08.

And is Clannad realistically ever going to exit the 'editing' phase? Hasn't everyone pretty much washed their hands of it?

Just like to mention some missing games on the list (not VNs since you have those pretty much covered).

Tales of Phantasia - http://www.tales-cless.org/?page=tales

Tales of Hearts - http://crimson-nocturnal.hostwoot.co...ales-of-hearts

Don't know if this counts, but there's also an Ar Tonelico 2 Retranslation project too - http://www.at2.metalbat.com/

I just used TLWiki's Offsite Projects, and edit it whenever there's a new project somewhere. I prefer doing such effort through the Wiki design, because everyone can edit it whenever there's something new, or it needs some additional tweaking.

In any case, there are some games there you haven't listed.

There is an active project for Circus' furry game (lol furry) Yaminabe Aries. Their translation Wiki is here.
Akai Ito (text translation currently because of the difficulties with the PS2 format): Project page
Battle Moon Wars: project page
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien: Project page. seems to be inactive
Some darktranslation games are missing. Miss Leet in prison, LILITH-IZM03 are currently active, and you could add several of the stalled ones too) DT site
Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse: #Ensue@Rizon.net - script translation complete, hacking and editing in process.
Dra+KoI: project page, it's fully translated now. Ask LoSs about the details I guess.
Seinarukana -The Spirit of Eternity Sword 2- currently text translation only AFAIK.
Tenshi No Inai 12-Gatsu: #Ensue@Rizon.net . See LoSs' reply above .
Yandere: active project

By the way your Koitate link is the one linking to an abandoned project. That one is the active: http://nekorelated.wordpress.com/ .
Sumaga translation by the same staff is still active as matter of fact. I wouldn't expect a fantranslation patch though. The staff hangs out at #tlwiki on Rizon.

Vatina,

Thankyou for the informing me about the translation efforts for Under the Moon and Ijiwaru My Master, I will check them out and add them in my next revision.

I’d like to add a search function but am somewhat limited in my choices due to a general lack of experience. That said I’m not averse to trying to ‘bluff my way through’, I’ll see if I can find some tutorials online and work on it; you might have to settle for an A-Z listing though (next major revision / within a week).

Moogy,

Thanks for pointing out those mistakes; I’ll make sure they are fixed shortly. In addition I’ll go ahead and place Chaos;Head under the 2009 releases as you requested.

NTX,

I think editing is continuing with the Clannad project, at least according to what I hear. That said it really is quite playable atm, I even thought of adding it to the released projects but decided I’d hold off till I heard something official.

Anon,

Thanks for alerting me to the Tales of Hearts translation effort, I’ll check it out and add it in for the next update. I have already listed a completed Tales of Phantasia (PSX) effort by Absolute Zero, but I’ll add the one by Phantasian Productions to the In Progress section.

I’m shying away from adding retranslation efforts at the moment, although I do agree that they are a boon for fans. What do people of this forum think about listing retranslations? Some good retranslations already out, which I considered listing were Breath of Fire 2 and Akumajou Dracula X (Castlevania SOTN).

Izmosmolnar,

Thankyou for the additional game suggestions and for pointing out the linking error, I’ll add them for the next update. A question though can you make sense of the Yaminabe Aries Wiki, I couldn’t see any kind of project statement and there were a lot of random comments on the front page. I kind of left it out, as I wasn’t sure what was going on there. Do you have any further information on their translation efforts?

Battle Moon Wars is under Japanese Games 2007 - 2009.

I’m not really sure I want to add Lilith titles as most of them lack storyline and involve dark themes like group-rape. I don’t want to scare away potential newcomers to visual novels. What are peoples opinions on this matter should I add them with a note saying dark themes / extreme content? Or not?

As to the Dra+KoI project is it still being released as a fan translation or being released commercially with JAST? I realise that Sumaga is still being actively translated, but it really is dead as a ‘fan translation project’, if from what I gather TLWiki is realising it in conjunction with JAST.

Thankyou for all the suggestions and comments everyone,

Eternal72

Eh... you want to start sorting which VNs go there or not based on your subjetive measure of quality or worthiness (how many of those 100VNs have you actually played, even 10?), but then you want to add random JRPGs that have nothing to do with VNs?

KaioShin,

I wasn’t saying I wouldn’t include Lilith titles. I was just giving a personal opinion/slant and asking for other opinions to determine what I should do.

After hearing what you have to say I’m thinking to include the translation of Lilith games in my next update.

By the way I haven’t just added random JRPGS. I have played and enjoyed the fan translations listed under Japanese Games. I figured a good place to start was to recommend translations I had actually played myself.
