Tell me about the Demonbane games

So here I was assuming that Deus Machina Demonbane was the only installment in Nitro+ Demonbane series, and on a few trips to my local Softmap I've seen probably no less than three or four different Demonbane titles both in the general PC gaming section and the adults-only section. What's the deal here? Are there different editions or versions, or are these all completely different stories? And did Nitro+ really make non-ero versions of the games?

And what the hell is the series about, anyways?

There are TWO unique Demonbane games. Out of the other two, one is a PS2 port of the original Demonbane and one is some racing game fandisc thingy.

The PS2 version of the first game is non-ero. I don't know about any others.

And it's a crazy magic+supernatural+mecha-themed work about a whole lot of crazy stuff. Never really caught my eye, I'm afraid.

斬魔大聖デモンベイン (Zanmataisei Demonbane) was the original Lovecraft-Sci-fi game in which the detective Daijuuji Kurou is asked to find a magical tome. Adventures with lolikko, giant robots and secret societies ensure.

Zanmataisei Demonbane was republished on the PS2 as 機神咆吼デモンベイン(Kishinhoukou Demonbane), in which I understand the ero was removed.

Finally, a sequel (of sorts) called 機神飛翔デモンベイン (Kishinhishou Demonbane) was released which outlines events occurring after the original game. It's a 3D robot action game rather than an ADV, and I understand it has no ero.

Pretty much all of these titles came in your typical 'limited first edition' and standard editions, which might explain why you saw so many different versions.

No ero, but all the ero was replaced with a Simcity-esque citybuilding simulator.

With giant robots rampaging around every so often.

Oh, and the most panty shots in any given game of it's genre :V

Watch the anime for Demonbane. It's what I did. It wsa pretty ridiculous, and I'm sure missed over half the story since it was only a 13 ep series.

I will contradict the poster above and say don't watch the anime if you intend to play the game - the Demonbane anime to the game is like the ONE OVAs to the game.

As a further comparison the Demonbane series is like the UBW arc of Fate except with way more over-the-top-ness, more gags and better writing. Rewarding if you can get through the first half of the story, but it'll take a while as it is fairly long.

That's definitely one of the titles I saw, but I also could swear I saw a few copies of what I presumed to be an all-ages Deus Machina Demonbane, as a bit of examination of the box yielded no ero screenshots (not that they're always there) and no 18+ sale warnings. Maybe I'll try and sneak some photos next time I'm there and see if anyone can't identify them.
