Default Japanese Language Proficiency Test

I think the registration period is within these 2-3 months, anyone else signing up for it? I'm aiming for level 1. Two years ago, I failed level 2 by 2.5%. And I've improved a lot since then, so I think I'm good for level 1 this coming December.

I think those that can read visual novels fine - with minimal use of a dictionary - should be, at the least, capable of passing JLPT2. Anyone agree? Disagree?

I'm taking level 2 this December. I took some practice problems in my 3rd year Japanese class and did horribly. Thus why I gotta study hard for it over summer...

I'd like to give level 3 a shot, but I've got a sinking feeling that the nearest test center is going to be a 4.5 hour drive from here. What's the website address with all the registration information and test locations?

Hmm....in my case, another year may be recommended before even Level 4.

I have serious doubts I would pass JLPT2, mostly because I find myself that reading is a lot easier than listening and composition.

Composition? Unless the test has drastically changed in the last two years, there is absolutely no composition involved. As for listening, I guess you don't often watch anime or Japanese drama without subtitles? Then again, if you score a perfect grade on the other sections, and get a 0 on the listening section. That's still over 70%, a passing grade.

If I remember correctly, passing for level 2 is over 60%, and 70% for level 1.

Wow, check out today's JLPT1 vocabulary:

堤防 ていぼう bank; weir(seen a million times in Air)

See how educational visual novels can be?!

*shakes head* Although, they need to update their bookstore list, they only list the West Coast (San Francisco serviced) Kinokuniya Books. There's one here in NYC that I went to a few weeks ago.

Doesn't BookWeb have two flavors for US? West coast and east coast?

Gah registration starts on Aug 1, 2006. How fast do these things usually fill up?

I don't know about other countries, but in Argentina the comment for Level 2 is :

"Nivel medio-alto de gramática. Conocimiento de 1.000 kanji y 6.000 vocablos aprox. Capacidad para conversar, leer y escribir acerca de cualquier tema en general."

Bold : Capacity to speak, read and write about any topic in general.
And I know for sure you at least have to write a small text about, say, your holiday.

And yeah, it's 70% for level 1, 60% for the rest.
