What could you possibly of been thinking to signal a Japanese company that was proactively trying to get into the English market, regardless of the problems with their trials, that they should fear any attempt to get into the market. Although they only had Underlip titles thus far, it is probable that they were trying to get involved with other companies similar to what MangaGamer is doing. What sort of message does this send any Japanese company who may want to experiment in the English market, especially with the controversy the last couple months, other than telling them they should never try to release stuff in the English market because they would risk a backlash not only affecting their experimental market, but also affecting their home market (as the RapeLay controversy has).

Mostly. There was a no-confidence vote sometime during the early 90s, so Japan was briefly ruled by a coalition party. Nevertheless, no opposition party actually won a majority of the votes until now.

That's technically correct......

They were against the LDP's proposed adjustments this year, citing that the definition of child porn might be too vague and the measures too conducive to miscarriage of justice. There was also some concern that a piece of art would be classified as child porn if the law were extended to fiction.

However, a leading DPJ politician was also first to propose an all-out eroge ban (citing sex crimes against children being their concern - at that time, otaku expected the LDP's "Rozen Aso" to jump to their defence while ignorant of Aso's own views on explicit manga/games). What I gather is that while members are against changing CP laws to include fictional works, they've also singled out eroge as obscene material that isn't art.

There is also a strong feminist agenda within their ranks, which should be expected since they're more socially liberal.

Yeah, I'm not personally willing to make a claim on whether this is good or bad. To be honest, I think that under the LDP the whole recent eroge fiasco would have all settled down eventually anyway and the new EOCS regulations etc. would gradually vanish. As such I'm uncomfortable with the DPJ moving in because I don't really like the risk of shaking things up like that. Oh well!

I will not defend my actions, but if they actually did cancel their business plans based on a single irate E-mail, I don't think we could have expected much from them.
