It seems 2009 is the year for restart announcements for stalled projects. According to a tweet by one of my favorite (musical) artists, work has begun again on Makki, Shoujobyou -Lyrical pop World's end- (Girl Disease, Terminal Stage), originally scheduled for release in 2003 but got postponed indefinitely until now. This was supposed to be the second game from the creators of Jisatsu no Tame no 101 no Houhou (101 Ways to Commit Suicide) and they even released a promotional video for it, which can currently be seen on Nico Nico Douga or YouTube. From the video, the game concept looks interesting and I hope it turns out to be a nice denpa game.
EDIT: Temporal rift detected. What I really meant was 2010. |

Ooh, that does look pretty fascinating. Shall certainly be following that one.

The former. Sakura no Uta was originally scheduled for 2004 IIRC.

tweets like >http://twitter.com/SCA_DI/status/22815683580 always remind me of how much more information the average Japanese tweet has compared to English ones. Imo Japanese tweet text limit should be changed to 20 :) Last edited by Ae772; 2010-09-04 at 21:47. |

Sorry, Duke Nukem Forever getting announced must have caused a temporal rift in my internal time mechanism. ;)

The Japanese tweet text limit shouldn't be changed at all. The English one should be quadrupled -- I wonder at times if Twitter was really made for English at all, because you can't really say anything in an English tweet.

It was originally introduced as an "SMS of the internet". The point is not to have a long limit that allowed for substantial content, but rather short, concise messages one would typically find in a cellphone text. |

Both titles still lose out to Torus Zero, I think that was officially planned for 2002 or 2003 and they're still pretending to be working on it.
And uh, I tenatively had Jisatsu no Tame no 101 no Houhou on my to-play list because I heard it was good, but those sample CGs made me reconsider. I didn't even flinch at the guro in Saya no Uta, too... |

Just talked to Blasterhead the other day on Nico Nico Douga, and it looks my suspicions were right that they're aiming for a July (eroge day) 2011 release, since Blasterhead had written on his profile that he'd be swamped until then and wasn't taking on any other requests save for perhaps some remixing work. He called it a "mousou shinri" (delusion) game rather than a "denpa" game.

å¦„æƒ³å¿ƒç† sounds pretty denpa to me, even if it doesn't involve literal 'waves'..

Blasterhead asked Gainax if they could use a term belonging to them in Makki, Shoujobyou and according to Twitter and the most recent post there they said yes. How cool of them.
And as an aside... I've been rather interested in the current incarnation of this game ever since I learned that the scenario is by Kingetsu Ryuunosuke, who was the head writer for Futakoi Alternative and Manabi Straight (two of my favorite anime), as well as providing the scripts for a number of other non-original anime. The Futakoi Alternative sequel short story that he wrote is pretty entertaining in an off the wall sort of way, I hope that Makki, Shoujobyou ends up being something along those lines as well; judging by the cracked-out plot synopsis on the site, it's weird enough to provide a decent hook, at least. Also of note is the absolutely crazy team of musicians that Blasterhead has assembled to provide the soundtrack for the game. Hosoe Shinji (aka sampling masters MEGA) and Namiki Manabu are probably the most well-known of the lot, but m1dy, Taishi, Hosoi Soushi, etc. are nothing to sneeze at either. If nothing else, the game will be worth it for the soundtrack alone. Kurasuke, the artist they hired, is also quite good and I really like the designs he's come up with for the game. Check out his site linked on the game site, there's a bunch of great illustrations up on there. Glad people like him are getting professional work. Anyway, I can really get behind the amount of work and dedication that Blasterhead has put into making this thing happen and I think the project in general has a lot of potential really just in terms of who all is working on it (though I can't say I'm a big fan of any of the seiyuu except Tamiyasu, but hey, at least they didn't cast Aoyama or somebody). Definitely looking forward to this. Oh yeah, they're selling an image soundtrack with short versions of BGM from the game and image tracks and stuff at C81.
