Garden

Garden by Cuffs. I found the demo to this on my hard drive yesterday, and played a bit.
The art was nice, and I found it pleasant to read. (And easy language-wise, which is an important factor for me when choosing a visual novel at the moment.)

Has anyone here played it? Impressions?

But mainly I'm making this thread because I need help :3
I was looking at the official site, considering ordering from Himeya today, when I came across this:

That sort of language is still a pain in the ass to read for me, so can someone confirm that the gist of it was: They're received lots of questions regarding the scenarios of Himeya Ruri and Rindou Mana, which they originally planned to have as gettable characters (is this what攻略キャラクター means?), but after considering how the story fits together they continued the story with just the other girls. Because of customer dissatisfaction, they've decided to complete the scenarios of the above two characters. Development is ongoing and it'll be on the website when it's done, grovel grovel etc.

Is that right?
And this page seems to suggest it wont be done until July.
I was quite looking forward to Ruri, so I guess I should wait a while to buy the game...

Ah, another thing I liked about this (and I know it sounds trivial) is that the text was vertical and in a very pretty and clean font. I don't know why but after having read text horizontally my whole life there is something refreshing about reading it vertically, especially when the characters are so nice to look at as in this case.

Are there any other visual novels with text in this style? I think the only other 'visual novels' in the Japanese sense I played were Leaf ones, and they were horizontal text.

They told people about missing scenarios only after game was released, so those who bought game were rather pissed about it, also game was filled with bugs, but I guess they managed to fix that with patches that were released afterwards.
Team's previous work Sakura Musubi seem very similar to Garden, you may chack that one if you still haven't, while waiting for possible full release of Garden.

To be honest I've been historically turned off CUFFS for the simple reason that the girls all look far far far too young.

I'm all for the 'All characters are 18 years or older' thing, and I'm extremely flexible. Sakurano Yuu is my limit, though, and the girls in CUFFS' games look even younger than that -_-

That said, if they release a full version of Garden... oh, forget it, there's plenty of good eroge coming up from companies that haven't betrayed the trust of people so blatantly in the past.

You've got the right idea. However, as the new scenarios will be available by way of patch, you're technically no worse off buying the game now.

You may want to try Suigetsu from F&C (especially as you seem to like ☆画野朗's art) and Kizuato from Leaf. Both feature vertical text and are very readable.

She looks like the girl in Haru no Ashioto. Don't know about H-scenes with her, though. The Getchu page seems to suggest there are.

IMO all the characters in Garden look much older than the pic you linked, except for Azami, who is totally not my type either :P

Anyway, thanks for the confirmation. I knew it would be via patch only, but I might as well wait to buy it since I wont be playing it until the patch anyway, and there is a remote chance it might pop up somewhere cheap, har.

I also recognise Yuki from someone I knew on a forum ages ago being obsessed with her...
I'll probably try and pick up the PS2 ver on my next Himeya order.

Indeed, Azami is the only ridiculously young-looking character in Garden.. it's nowhere near as bad as a lot of the other games by CUFFS.

Yes, and yes, there are H scenes.

(kidding, kidding, it's one out of like three tolerable games by F&C so it's at least somewhat notable, I guess)

EDIT: Kizuato, on the other hand, ROCKS. Utter classic. To be honest, vertical text was never really my thing but I don't mind reading it. I do find it a teeny bit off-putting, though, especially since I sometimes find it difficult to judge the height of characters when it matters.

You're contradicting yourself there. Usually that statement is used for characters like Azami.
