Exclamation Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Game Translation Project

Hi all!

I'm pleased to announce that our group, Sonozaki Futago-tachi, has a new English patch for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: Onikakushi (Day 3)! It includes translations for the Prologue, Days 1-3, TIPS 1-6, menu and button images, and Frederika's poem.

I've created a folder on RapidShare to hold our Higurashi patches. You can access it at http://rapidshare.com/users/MQK6IW.
It contains a patch for the Higurashi demo, as well as a patch for the full Higurashi (aka Himatsubushi)

To install a patch, simply unzip the contents into a subdirectory of the original Japanese game; double-click "onscripter-en.exe" to play.

I'll put any future patches in that folder, so you don't have to worry about finding dead links months from now - just check the folder for what's new.

Please let us know what you think!
Also let me know if you have problems installing the patch.

Mion (Sonozaki Futagotachi)

There is another translation, but the other group's translator seems to be getting bogged down; he didn't mind us doing our own version. Ours has image translations, too.

We'll probably get Day 4 (and maybe 5) done within a few weeks, by the way.

You're amazing! What a fantastic job! You have no idea how long I searched for a translation! I just finished the first 3 days and it was so good. I just have one question, Why are the TIPS out of the main story? Is it just for making more interractivity?

Keep up you're super job! You have my thanks!

Exclamation News: Downloadable Higurashi!

Here's some exciting news for those of you who are interested in getting the Higurashi visual novels but scared by the shipping costs:

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, the suspense doujin visual novel games from 07th Expansion, are becoming available for download! The first game in the franchise (containing the "Question" arcs Onikakushi-hen through Himatsubushi-hen) became available on New Years Eve on various download sites at the price of 1575 yen. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai (featuring the "Answer" arcs Meakashi-hen through Matsuribayashi-hen) will be available starting January 25th, 2008 at 2100 yen. Finally, the fandisc Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei will be available for download starting February 22nd, 2008 at 1050 yen.
So, if you can muddle through a Japanese online ordering system, you can download Higurashi (also Kai & Rei later this year) without having to deal with shipping!

Shion and I already bought all three games, but we hope someone will come along and recommend which download store to use and maybe give some instructions for ordering.

Enjoy!

Mion (Sonozaki Futago-tachi)

P.S. - Day 4 is fully translated and we're working on the adaptation.

I managed to both dl it from BGameBox (don't know if it's any better than the other ones, but I had to get planetarian through it, so I already had an account there) and get through the authorizing process of the first set of games, so I'll try to put together a guide sometime.

However, it seems the build of Higurashi available for download is different than the physical copy, because your patch doesn't work on it ;_; I think it may have to do with how they set up their copy protection script, but I barely know any programming stuff, so I'm just guessing.

Hmm, can you give me a list of the top-level files and directories in the download? You don't need to list all the sound files. I'll see what I can figure out.

(sub-folder) WAV
arc.nsa
nscript.dat
Readみー☆.txt
unins000.dat
unins000.exe
ひぐらしのなく頃に.exe

It also creates a "main.bin" file when the program is running.

Hmm... that looks about right; are the translation patch files in a subdirectory of the download game directory?

Thanks, Mion

No problem, it happens. Still, whew... I was ready to have a heart attack at the thought that I might need to rebuy the game to make sure the patch works with the download...

Okay, I've put together a guide for downloading the game ^^ The layout's very basic, but it gets the job done. You can find it here for the time being. If there's anything that needs to be changed, let me know ^^

Great job on writing up instructions (though I haven't verified if they work).

As for the translation patch getting around the security... the registration code stuff must be within the exe program that runs the JP game, if running the translation with onscripter doesn't encounter it. Not our intention ^^;; but oh well.
