Just the main path. The figures are for the main path + the two H scenes on the main path (i.e. g01-g55 and the two ghh files)

It doesn't count 'editing' (because I can't really put a figure on that) or any of the other parts normally associated with translation (script reinsertion, etc.) because I don't count a line as translated unless it's actually inserted into the game =p

Also, my rate of translation doesn't feel that fast. I'm spending somewhere in the duration of about 10-30 seconds per line (sometimes up to a minute) agonising over what to write. It feels pretty glacial, to be honest. I'm probably not cut out for this translation bullshit. Anyone wants to take over, just raise your hand =p

Nice try trying to sneak stats and data past someone who uses them at work all the time.

I give you Exhibit #1

http://www.getchu.com/pc/salesranking200801.html
Cuffs's Garden, released 1/25. was 3rd at getchu for January sales.

The same game that was missing the scenario for one of the girls on the front of the box, and could be found the next week used in stores for about 1200Y if I remember the headlines properly.

----
Looking back, http://www.akibablog.net/archives/20...en-080128.html
it was 2000Y, (down from the standard 9280) by the 3rd day.

No, I'm just happy to see a good game selling well. It's pretty clear from past getchu stats that, even over a whole year, volume in sales is not correlated with quality.

That said, I think the 'quality' of Garden will increase by a decent amount when that patch finally comes out. If it does.

EDIT: Oh farf, I've hit a bit of a wall with some of the annoying puns. Just dropping in fairly literal translations for now and continuing (since I don't know how to adapt them, since I actually don't understand some of the puns), but if anyone is somewhat not-crap with Japanese I would definitely be grateful for some help.

Could you post the puns? I'll take a look at them if you do. That and someone else might as well.

They're both in Usami Haru's jikoshoukai. The first one, where she seems to be giving her family name (Usami) in a roundabout way, is:
Haru: 「
Tsubaki: 「
Haru: 「
Tsubaki: 「
Tsubaki: 「
As you see, Tsubaki seems to work out her name from that line, and I have no idea how. I don't understand the pun at all. Is there something strange about buying bread that I don't know about? I couldn't see how the characters of Usami's name had anything to do with the pun either.

And the second bit, where she seems to be hinting at her given name (nobody gets it this time):

I just feel I could better translate, or adapt the puns if I 'got' them. Yet, for that second one, 'Haru' doesn't seem to match the word 'Violin' in any way at all (so I don't see how her name could be related to how she would appear in the news if arrested), nor any other instrument I could think of, and I couldn't see any other clues (unless I missed something with the piccoloist mentioned in the last sentence). Of course, I could be misunderstand that entirely and she's not hinting at her name at all, but who knows.
Chances are that last one is going to be somewhat obscure in Japanese as well.

I actually don't believe either of these are puns. If I remember correctly, Tsubaki was the class president, and would probably be privy to information such as the new students name.

And the other one is her just being weird and going off on a tangent from introducing one of her hobbies. I don't see how it would be possible to get "Haru" out of information like that.

Hopefully this helped?

I guess I'll just leave the translation I've got at the moment (which is, as far as I can tell, 'correct', just doesn't make a lick of sense in English).
While Tsubaki is the class rep, I didn't think she actually knew Usami's name at all... otherwise she might have been given it beforehand. But there's really no other way for her to have gotten it, so I'll just go with that.

勇者 refers to Hero or to be literal "One who is brave", thus the brave etc. So they're saying that their school nickname was "Hero" and they used be told all the time "Hey, Hero, Go buy me a hero." and that that alone was pretty fun. Of course, how they singled out Usami Sadamitsu from all the other possible Warring States Era heroes, is a bit beyond me.

The joke she's making is more in referrence to how the news reports band members when they're arrested for crimes: "Satou Vocals, arrested early this morning.". So in her case, since she's Usami, it would be recorded as Usami Violins. "So then, what if the criminal was a piccolo player? It would be would be Usami Piccolo, right? Under normal circumstances, being arrested makes you evil, but if Piccolo came after your name, wouldn't that sound even worse?"

Just a guess on my part, but I think they're referring to Piccolo from the Dragon Ball series... Since everyone knows about him, and he was originally scripted as "The Great Demon King" (大魔王, which would thus be a pun in line with the game's title itself) who vied to become the God of Earth, and at the long end of the series ends up taking over and governing Hell itself.

I totally missed the bit about the hero sandwich! Thank you.

Yeah, I understood the bit about naming band members when they get arrested. Essentially, I thought she was making a pun about her name, somehow, but evidently not.

In conclusion, I guess I'm mostly happy with my translation of the second piece, but I might go and update the first to buying a Hero sandwich, rather than just 'some bread'. Admittedly poor research on my behalf. On the other hand, for my terrible Japanese, I'm quite proud of my pace so far! Might even be able to crap out a demo translation in a few weeks.

My sig says 'editing' but in truth I haven't done any editing in a week. I should, I should, but there's just so much eroge and whenever I've got spare time I just feel like playing through more of that...

Don't worry Asceai, we still love you.

It's not a big deal, anyway. Everyone has their own lives/hobbies/stuff to take care of. You don't need to be feeling guilty about anything. You're taking the time to translate and we respect you for it.

Well, I'm not going to play 5 until I've edited and released this goddamn thing. Not even gonna touch it.

Given that I really want to play 5, hopefully this will motivate me to get it done before the thing arrives =p
