I finally picked up Hourglass Of Summer off of eBay for fairly cheap and gave it a shot tonight. I like the game, I like how it's voiced, but man is it slow on the DVD player I was using. The transitions are VERY jerky; characters moving about the viewing window seem to be animated by some sort of freakish stop-motion. And the load times between scenes - ugh!
As the game also had a PC release in Japan, I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about the possibility of somehow getting the executable from that (i.e. in the taikenban) and using the DVD data files to play on the computer, i.e. the PS2 ToHeart 2. Is there any way this would be at all possible? |

If you had enough space you could rip the game disk image onto your computer and mount it on a virtual drive. Software which would do this is a combination of Daemon tools and/or CloneCD, Blindwrite, Alcahol120%. More information can be found on the CDFreaks forum here. Also if possible obtain Daemon tools version 3.4x since they introduced a opt out adware thing in v4.

from my experiences its slooooow on a ps2 but runs pretty well on a standalone dvd player (the game has no love for my xbox or mac though). If also runs pretty well if you make a disc image and use power dvd. I don't have a dvd drive on my pc so I can't try it directly off disc, but yeah I really wish they released this one on pc.

HOWEVER... if you wanna... I have Daemon Tools 3.44. Now, it's time for YOU get the D-tools 3.44 ^_^ Once the D-Tools installer is very little, I've uploaded it in MegaUpload for all here. Take the Daemon tools v3.44 here! D-Tools uploaded in 14/01/2006. It'll stay in megaupload for at least one month (If NO ONE download it) Enjoy the non-adware daemon tools while <strike> I think if I upload my Alcohol 120% with a little illegal enhancement called "no-serial patch" for ya - but, It'll happen when the Boss allows "no-serial patches" here (I mean NEVER!) </strike> See ya! But... which kind of game works in any DVD-player? This game works in a "standart" DVD-Player, not a video-game plataform (Like PS, PS2, X-Box) or PC (I mean, the game plays, also, in a DVD-player)!? Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! The Humanity... (But I prefer my Warcraft 3 and my Precious Unreal Tournament) Enjoy the D-tools anyways! |

As far as the game playing on DVD, it is part of Hirameki's AnimePlay DVD line, which were designed to be played on DVD players - a hardware player, PC DVD software, your XBox/PS2, etc. I've yet to try the game on my Toshiba SD2300 Nuon player, but it was slow as hell last night on my girlfriend's Sony. And for those of you who offered advice vis-a-vis Daemon Tools, thanks, but that wasn't quite what I was looking for - I was trying to see the possibility of pairing the data files with a PC executable and getting it to run as a native PC application. Taking a closer look at the disc, though, I realize I was totally mistaken - as Zalas mentioned, everything in the game has just been reduced to DVD video clips, so basically I suppose I'd have to write the game script from scratch, assuming I managed to extract all the audio and visuals (read: Impossible.) While I do have Daemon Tools, I don't think I'd have enough space on my hard drive to mount the disc image, but maybe I'll give it a shot through my PC DVD drive once I set the region back from 2. I've got Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic which both handle DVDs nicely, and I think a copy of PowerDVD was included with the drive when I bought it. I'll give it a shot on my Toshiba player first though. |

Pity I don't have a copy of the game, but it is possible to extract DVD style .vob files and set them into a series of video clips and use an batch file (or C++ if you're more comfortable with it) to execute the clips in order.

You (all here) don't worth my efforty for this... do you really read what I've written? Maybe without "strike" effect you can read better... Quote:
a) I know, and very very well, thanks (mainly after to see several posts edited by Haeleth or someone with such power), about this rule. (Why do you think I wrote "I mean NEVER!"? I won't upload such file and, mainly, post the link here! I won't lost my "login"... I have a _inmm.dll guide to see and upload when I see it's needed!!) b) I'm not crazy enough to make a upload of a 4 megabytes zipped file with a 56K modem; I have more things to do with my connection (Such as download, download... Ah! and download ^_^ and e-mails, here, download again...) I still NOT understand why I've made the D-tools update, even with a little installer! ^_^ c) It's very fine you aren't keen on such thing. I wouldn't do anyways! ^_^ d) Someone gave me the soft+crack. I wouldn't recuse... (Also, the alcohol I've gotten doesn't work without it... =/ A truly piece of 5h17...) But, as you wrote before, the D-tools isn't so useful to you, once you have a DVD driver (unlike me, I have a virtual one... T-T)... Well, I won't remove the link anyways... Maybe another people need this tool. And once I don't have such kind of games (Besides, I don't have any kind of such games unless Kanon - and unninstaled), I don't know how I can help you. Sorry. I'm gettin' outta here! (And yep, D-Tools 3.44 is freeware ^_^) |

Uploading the DVD to your hard drive really won't change anything-- you could speed up the pictures, but then the sound and text would move faster too.
