Default Hourglass of Summer question

I was trying out this game just now when I realized something funny - the character seems to be talking a lot more than whatever subtitles that appear in the game. Is this because Hirameki cut alot of textblocks in their translations or is that because of my laggy computer? (I made an image of the disc as none of my DVD players can read it properly...). Anybody knows?

Hmm... I don't remember noticing any missing translations. It's been a while, but from what I remember it was quite the contrary, I was surprised how well a job they did with it. I'd rather blame something else than my memory, so I'll have you know that the AnimePlay DVDs don't run at all well on PCs. The only software I've seen running Phantom of Inferno or Hourglass of Summer properly is PowerDVD 7 or newer.

(From what I understood PowerDVD is something close to a virtual machine simulating a standalone DVD player, so if that's true I guess it'd make sense that it's more compatible than, say, MPC.)

Like message said, it only works (relatively) smoothly on powerdvd. If you're not using it, then that's your problem.

I had the best results playing it on a PS2.

I also had no problems playing it on PowerDVD, although speeding the play 4x or 8x didn't work too well... so playing it more times is almost out of the question... so I gave up on it eventually because of the annoying DVD format.

...Seeing how Hirameki went bellyup anyway, maybe it'd be an option to work out a patch implementing their translation in the PC version? Would this be considered ethically acceptable?

Edit: Speaking about Phantom atm, no idea if a PC version of Natsuiro exists.

Natsuiro no Sunadokei has a PC version; I've got it, actually. Unlike the PC remake of the Princess Soft game Yumemishi*, the H scenes in Natsuiro are basically bolt-ons.

Be one hell of a patch, though, since you'd have to OCR a hell of a lot of text to do it.

*in fact, the H scenes in Yumemishi are so significant/appropriately placed that I have no idea how a PS2 version ever existed in the first place. It doesn't seem like a game that could really work without the H scenes.

OP here.

I was using ol' Windows Media Player and this IntervideoWinDVD which was bundled with my comp. I guess that's the problem ^^"

I'll try PowerDVD and come back with the results. Thanks for the suggestions guys ^^

There's plenty software to convert DVD subs to plaintext. Like vobsub's subresyn. I understand it's pretty much automated, even. But yeah, requires some decent proofreading.

Hmm... I think I'll start a poll about this one. Kind of interested to hear what others think.
