I am yet another Princess Maker fanatic struggling my way through the games, having shelled out for the Memorial Box. Hexediting pm1refine was surprisingly easy and therefore it was a disappointment when the others didn't turn out to be so helpful. :)
Currently PM4 is playable with AGTH, but I'd *like* to be able to patch in some text to make it slightly less of a headache. I have managed to unpack the data files the game ships with but the contents of the 'script' file still don't make any sense. unpacked, 'script' turns into album.txt item_msg.txt item_nam.txt pm4img.txt prime4.g2 prime4.g2m room.g2 unfortunately the only one of these files that contains any recognisable Japanese is the album file and that's not much help. I can only assume these files are encypted somehow. Those last three are the biggest files and must contain the scenario files somehow. unfortunately that's where I'm stuck. One of the files attached - suggestions welcome. :) |

i have tried to crack this game in May, as you see ,the scenario should be in the files you list.
and the files head seem contain a link list of the sentence. |

I haven't made any progress with these text files yet but I have cracked open the graphics and replaced a lot of the GUI (Not all of it because it just doesn't seem worth the bother changing every single 'cancel' and whatnot, but changing the skill-names display is a HUGE help, it makes the game so much more playable)
you can see what I've done at Princess Maker 4 Translation Patch |

Pm2 refine is easy to edit with HEX editor. All text is in exe file.

.... and this is relevant to a discussion of pm4 how, exactly?

Well, I don't think I'm going to bother with the scenarios for the initial patch, even if I could figure them out.
But it WOULD be really useful to get the item names replaced. If those text files actually do contain the item names/descriptions and can be patched in... They're pretty small files, so hopefully someone can figure out how to make sense of them. |

1. Make sure the archive extraction actually works properly. Sometimes different file types will have different encryption applied to them. For example, CG files from Tenshi no Inai Juuni Gatsu have extra encoding in the archive files.
2. It often is a lot easier to work from something that you already have an idea about. For instance, start looking at the album.txt to see if you can derive some logical structure that can be used in the other .txt files. 3. Just because it's .txt doesn't mean it's a plaintext file that has been encrypted. SEEN.TXT from AVG32 (VisualArt's) is nothing like an encrypted plaintext file. |
