Default Do you read faster than the voice actors read their lines?

You've finished reading the whole block of text, but the voice actor is only halfway through the block of text. What do you do to kill time while the voice actor is catching up to you? Do you just press the button and skip the remaining voice acting?

Personally, I sometimes read aloud along with the voice acting. As for pressing the button to skip, I do it when I hate the voice of the person speaking, like that annoying little girl in Air, or the blonde hair guy in Clannad.

I guess this isn't really an issue for those who play PC versions of visual novels, since most of them lack voice acting(I think).

I usually skip ahead if I haven't got any problems understanding the passage. Otherwise, hearing it spoken aloud can often help, especially given the virtual non-existence of furigana in these games.

On the contrary, you'd be hard pressed to find a PC visual novel now that didn't have voice. Even old hold-outs like Key are starting to give in, with Little Busters and Tomoyo After both having full voice.

It really depends on if I like the voices or not...

I generally skip the voice unless I'm really in the mood to hear the person speak.

Half the time it's not a problem for me... ;_;

(Particularly when characters are talking fast and using complex language. Yes, Shizuka, I'm thinking of you.)

But even where there's a character I can reliably beat, like AIR's Minagi, I usually like to listen to the voice, if only to check that I've got the right reading for all the kanji.

I'm a really slow reader, so it's rare for me to finish before the actor does.

I stay with the sub's - sometimes i read a lil' bit faster without noticing.. so that leaves me to wonder around the scene to spot anything out.

Since I cannot read japanese most of the time, I have to feel the emotion via the voice acting. So, it mostly beats me to it(Not to mention some voice actings worth hearing for many times.)

Many seem to habour a hate on that pink haired tyke in AIR. I wonder why.

I don't understand japanese, so all the subtitles I read are in english. I don't know if I finish befoer the actors or not. :(
But I haven't understood english all my life eighter, and all the english shows on TV in Norway are subtitled and not dubbed. So I've read subtitles for as long as I could read. Now that I understand english there is no need to read the subtitles, but I just can't help it. It happens subconsiously or something. I might suddenly notice that the subtitles are translated completely wrong and stuff like that. When I read the subtitles uncounsiously while watching the faces on the screen, I never feel that I have to wait for them to finish.
When there are no faces however, it would be a completely different story. And I guess those cases were the issue here so.. hmm, yeah, forget all of that. *shrinks away*

...er, we're talking about games here.

Anyway, I always skip through unless it's an important scene or the line looks like it's worth listening to.

I almost always skip the first time(s) through, but not after I've unlocked everything. Once I've unlocked everything, I listen and I listen very carefully. (Once I've unlocked everything, I don't read the text all that much). I can't help it-I can never read slower than the voice actors, not even the actor for excel saga.

I almost always read at the same speed as the voice actor. It's plain out because I enjoy reading slowly ;)
