I can't say that Anime Advanced's list is 100% accurate. It lists a number of titles that aren't VNs (.hack, Naruto), and omits titles that should be there (Eve Burst Error).

Yeah it's definitely not 100% accurate. I have yet to put any of Himeya Soft's title in either the 18+ or non-adult section. I plan to do it during summer but it'll be quite hard for me to find a list of all their games as well as the other older ones.

As for Naruto and .hack being there, those were added for the purposes of E3 coverage but right now I'm not sure whether the site will have any other general anime-related game coverage in general...

I do plan to post a few Hirameki videos soon. . .

But for non-adult titles I have to highly recommend Ever 17 -the out of infinity-. I'll have a review of that soon but in the meantime I can say it's definitely a title that deserves more attention.

If you're looking for a visual novel that doesn't have any adult content (but might include graphic violence, gore, profanity, and mild fanservice), your best bet is to check out anything from Hirameki International's catalog (Phantom of Inferno, Hourglass of Summer, Ever 17, etc...).

Non-Hirameki titles available in English include Graduation (dubbed), Eve Burst Error, Phoenix Wright (if that really counts), Snatcher (Hideo Kojima), Radical Dreamers (for Chrono fans), Bloody Bride, Planetarian, and any of the stuff released for Altogether 2005. Also, if you don't mind being teased, check out anything on Insani's website except Anonono and Majipuri. These two contain H moments, but the others don't. Keep in mind that none of those titles will be available in English (at least, not anytime soon), and the final product of each contain H.

Of the above, I would recommend picking up Phantom of Inferno, Snatcher, Eve, Ever 17, and Planetarian. I would also recommend Hourglass of Summer, but I want to finish that completely before giving it my seal of approval. However, I honestly recommend checking out Kana and Crescendo despite the fact that they are rated 18+. Both titles are excellent and serve as a great counterpoint to anyone who claims "18+ = porn", if that's what worries you.

I'm interested in Kana little sister but it's the hentai. Does it actually have sex in it?

Afraid so. The fact is that there's just not a lot available for the English-speaking market at the moment as it is, and until recently, conventional marketing wisdom had it that if it didn't have sex, it'd be too niche to sell at all.

While that's gradually changing now with companies like Hirameki, you'll find that most of what's commercially released still bears the legacy of that kind of thinking.

There was an XBox port, which I believe had the hentai scenes cut out. But it sold poorly and was cancelled pretty quickly, and was never released in English.

I'll try and be as specific as possible without spoiling. There are a total of 5 H-scenes in the entire game. No matter which route you take, you will witness 3 of them. Depending on which ending you are headed towards, you may come across one of the remaining two, one for ending #1, and one for ending #5 or #6.

Two of the three scenes that are forced upon you play an important part to the story. I'd try to argue that all three are integral to the plot, but I think they could have ditched the second of the three without sacrificing much.

On the other hand, it's possible to go through a title like Crescendo without encountering a single H-scene and still get a good ending. Plus, the story makes it such that none of the scenes are gratuitous or out-of-place (on that note, I don't think it's possible to run into more than two scenes in a single playthrough).

You don't have to answer this question if you don't want to, but I'm curious: exactly why do you want to avoid H content? Do you not want someone walking into your room at the wrong moment? If that's the case, go ahead and play Kana anyway; you read through 2/3 of the story before running into the first scene, and you have a fair warning before you see each one. It'd be a pity if your reason for not checking out Kana was fear of your brother spontaneously kicking your door down (which, by the way, my brother does -- he kinda broke my door frame, so I can never lock it again).

As for the Kana remake: although the X-Box version was cancelled, another company took that material and made a PC version (sorry, it's not an all-age version). Personally, I'm a little put off by its art style (Kana herself looks way too young, and most of the characters look a little weird), even if it is an improvement over the original release. Oh well. We already have one version of the title, so I'm not too sour about it.

About the not wanting to see hentai...I guess it's just because I don't like to watch sex. And I have a younger brother that could come into the room any minute. How did you guess? :o

No, there is no way around some of them.
At the best, all you can do is hold the Ctrl key down to speed up the text until you pass the scene(I think that worked in Kana, I'm not positive though.)

[Salt and Pepper], I have eight people at my place, one of which has a habit of kicking my door down impromptu. That's how I was able to guess your situation.

Billhead's suggestion is a good one. My brother (coincidentally, the same one who kicks down my door) played through Castle Fantasia 2 in our living room (with a girl on the couch behind him) by fast-forwarding the H-scenes. Every modern visual novel has this feature. Usually it's mapped to Ctrl, but some titles map it to F3 or Page Down. Check the online manual included with the game to be sure. Also, earlier print runs of the game have mosaic censorship, so you don't need to worry too much if you manage to snag one of those.

As for the warning, if characters start making out heavily or one enters the room wearing nothing but a bath towel, you pretty much know what's going to happen next.

F.I.A., there isn't any incest in Kana. I'd explain it properly, but doing that involves spoiling a small chunk of the story. I have to say I'm disappointed that a lot of people are opposed to stuff they have never even seen simply because of what they think it is, as opposed to finding out what it actually is for themselves.

I don't see how that matters though. The fact remains that they play up the incest theme until the very last portion of the story. As an audience, we all know the kind of story the writers are trying to tell, regardless of such technicalities.

It isn't too different from a product featuring graphic sex with prepubuscent girls. The writers could throw in some shocking revelation (i.e. she's honestly 18.....it's just some kind of physical and psychological maturation problem) before intercourse is displayed on screen. However, that doesn't negate the themes that're obviously being explored or exploited.
