Quite a few people recommended Kana Little Sister, and I actually really enjoyed it. Could you recommend similiar visual novels that can be 'life changing'?

I certainly can't recommend Kana as being 'life changing'; if you're looking for a similar 'medical drama' theme, I suggest downloading insani's translation of Narcissu. The writing is much, much better, and due to a complete lack of a psuedo-incestual theme, it shouldn't leave any readers with unsettling feelings of disgust.

Ahh, Narcissu. That one was fine work, indeed. Even though it was rather depressing at times, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone interested in visual novels. It left me quite speechless, like Red Shift did, which I finished just a few hours ago.

Thanks to everyone who sacrifice their free time to translate these small masterpieces to non-japanese-speaking majority. I appreciate your hard work!

A niceful, freeware and translated visual novel?

I'm curious now...
Although I don't like very much of the "visual novels" genre (Forgive me, people, I love the FPS and the RTS genres... UT, Q3A, SWAT 3 Elite ed, W3 - TFT, TA and AOM-TT are my "eye-candy"... ^_^), I'll see this game. ^_^

On the topic : Does anyone else notice a disturbing tendency in Japanese visual novels to depict tragedies of terminal illnesses and the like?
It is far more frequent than I would deem normal.

Novels like Planetarian are quite refreshing in that sense.

It's just a useful plot device, I guess. I've heard like 90% of KDramas use leukemia too :)

Oh! Forgive my error...
As I said in someplace in the past, my English isn't good (I'm Brazilian, and my English skills are almost all gotten by the translation - Games texts, some - few, for my luck - College english books, and such...)

Anyways, As I could see, Narcissu is a nice, freeware, translated and "not-so 'megabyte-huge-monster'-executable-file" visual novel. ^_^
