the real problem with all those bans is simply put as: to enforce the ban, an internet filters _MUST_ be installed.

today the filters will be used to "protect" children from the internet (something many parents, who don't want to spend time with their children, would support). Or they are used to filter child pornography (something no sane person will argue about in public).

the question is, would it stop at that? the equipment to filter the internet is already in place, what is there to stop the government from using it to block access to things they don't want their citizens to see?

P.S. whoever says that "the government won't do that/won't lie to its people"... please PM me... I have a really cheap bridge to sale you.

P.S.S. whoever "think" that a secured proxy would help them bypass this filter should think again.... the filter is the same as the "man in the middle" attack conducted by your very own ISP, who would report to the government!

P.S.S.S. am not trying to take things offtopic... but those filters (AKA government controlled censorship equipment) can't be installed without some sort of a ban to help in making them a legal requirement... the ban itself can be stupid or unenforceable... but as long as it exist.. then the filter would follow.

As for the Nitro+ stuff, wait for an official statement.

Really? Because to me it sounded like JAST had successfully constructed and deployed Noah II, convincing the TLWiki staffers to spew the canned message by forcing delusions onto them. I was spared as I only contributed image edits (as Blick Winkel). Eventually, this site will also fall victim to JAST's delusional attacks, and we'll mentally be stuck in an endless summer where new visual novel translations are announced just in time to distract us from the fact that the last anticipated ones have never been released. Just look at how Family Project has been delayed. JAST's conquest is already beginning.

edit: Support JAST USA's official localizations of Nitro+ games!

That message could be good or bad news. I'm hoping for the good news.

Well now fans can focus on games by other companies and JAST will take care of ALL Nitro+ games. And as they come out I'll be sure to support JAST USA's official localizations of Nitro+ games!

I'd love to Support JAST USA's official localizations of Nitro+ games!, but to Support JAST USA's official localizations of Nitro+ games! I'd have to repurchase all of the Nitro+ games! that have JAST USA's official localizations in order to Support JAST USA's official localizations of Nitro+ games!

That sounds pretty unnecessarily expensive.

Saya no Uta's patch is down, but there's no "Support JAST USA's official localizations of Nitro+ games!" notice.
How can I Support JAST USA's official localizations of Nitro+ games! if I'm not given a reminder?

edit: I found the secret message.
If you rot13 "Support JAST USA's official localizations of Nitro+ games!,"
you get
"Fhccbeg WNFG HFN'f bssvpvny ybpnyvmngvbaf bs Avgeb+ tnzrf!"
Which is gibberish. But, if you rot13 that again, you get
"Support JAST USA's official localizations of Nitro+ games!"

If you bought a Japanese game and couldn't read it but then get mad you have to rebuy it in English because it was licensed instead of illegally translated (this is not a jab but a fact: fan translations are illegal) you have problems.

If you bought a Japanese game because you can read Japanese then you have a completely different situation.

Why is it such a big deal thatpeople want to support professional translations of Nitro+?

It's not illegal unless we make money off it D: No one's gotten arrested or fined for doing a fan translation

waaa waaa waaa illegal illegal illegal
my shit is illegal ya know?
copyright infraction is not illegal and it's not bound by criminal law!

as for your first example, it's way better than wait for patch and download the game, right?

For the millionth time. It is still illegal (Berne Convention comes to mind). Many translators will acknowledge this XP. Its not unethical (in my opinion) but it is illegal. Why is this hard for people to understand?

I'm not even going to bother to respond to Enerccio.

One exception of note, of course, is 07th Expansion works; Ryukishi07 has stated he freely allows derivative works of his creations (not including the music, which he doesn't own the copyright to) and that he considers foreign language translations to be included in this category.

Not that this has much relevance unless MangaGamer starts issuing legal threats to the Sonozaki Futagotachi, but it's worth the reminder that fan translations are considered illegal as violations of the original creators' copyright, which they can waive at their discretion.
