I'd like to see some physical copies of 18+ titles. I guess they don't want to sell them online because of a more complicated situation with international import laws concerning porn?

Judging by the survey that Sekai project and Overflow did when Overflow were considering selling games overseas, it does seem like there are a lot of tricky rules about selling games with 18+ content overseas.

It just costs more to make physical copies. JAST wouldn't have them if legality was a problem.

Ahem.

It's not a fucking ban.

It's a bill allowing the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly to decide what is acceptable for viewing or not.

It has not been signed into motherfucking Tokyo state law YET. (It's NOT a federal law, it's a STATE LAW.)

The bill has been approved for voting by the state assembly, which assembles on Wednesday to determine if it's gonna be law or not.

It is NOT a fucking ban, though it's probably worse than a ban.

Besides, it won't affect eroge, which is probably way out of the reach of most people. If they didn't already plaster 18+ stickers on the boxes already warning people that it's adult material.

(It is a sad day when ANN is more reliable than it's... ... ... competitors. Sankaku Complex is a tabloid and to consider it a news source is not just lazy, but dangerous.)

drmchsr0, you are right when you wrote that it is not a ban. But as I wrote elsewhere, the real problem is, the bill make certain subjects as "Adult Only." So even if the manga/anime have no nudity or sex, it will have to have an "AO" because of the subject!. Or that is how I understand the bill, they won't touch AO manga/anime, but they won't allow things that are dimmed obscene in normal work, therefore the manga/anime must have an "AO" if it want to cover a certain subject.

BL might end-up being banned with this since it is targeted at teen girls, the subject would be dimmed as obscene therefore earning an "AO" rating. Hence the teen girls won't be able to get their hands on it.

you are right when you wrote that most of the fans of manga/anime are already over 18. But there is still a lot of money in the under 18 market. Also, rated 18 is the not the same as AO, I don't know how it is in Japan, but in the west, many stores what would display 18 and R rated items, won't display AO items. Mangaka will have to change their work to avoid having the AO rating, so yes, you and I will end up being effected by this bill.

P.S. this post is based on my understanding of the bill. I might still be wrong.

/me pick up a dictionary

dimmed - made dim or less bright;
deemed - to have as an opinion; judge;

humm.... if anyone needs me, I'll be at the corner of the class.

not related to VNs, but an interesting move from Amazon:

Amazon randomly censoring incest books
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/12...orship_policy/

so... if an erotic text book contain incest or underage sex, there is a chance that it might get censored out of Amazon!

I don't know which scares me more, government censorship or the cooperate censorship!
