Most commercial contracts will have a clause stating which laws apply and which courts have jurisdiction in the event of a dispute. In addition, if the jurisdiction in which the contract was executed can be ascertained, there's a good chance you can bring action in that jurisdiction.

I really have no problems with the DRM if they stay allow more activation codes if you show proof of purchase. If you only need to activate once, then I'll just make an archive of the activated game, store it in a back-up, and copy/paste/extract it whenever I make a change to my computer.

The problem on Mangagamer's side is that DRM pretty much leads to some determined 'hacker' breaking their system. They are either looking for the challenge or just pissed off at the DRM, but I'm fairly certain that someone out their will break their system and will be more than happy to share it to the general public.

They should just do what Hirameki did and crack down on torrent trackers and file sharing sites. Having the label of 'DRM' slapped onto their product will only lead to bad results on their end...

-About the Law thing...
I can still make a back-up as long as I don't share it online right?

When it's for private use only - yes.

Unfortunately, that didn't work particularly well for Hirameki. Trying to stop torrent sites is like trying to nail jelly to a tree. Torrent sites not being particularly illegal (especially in some countries) also makes them very hard to stop.

If I cared about the DRM server going away, I'd install the game into a virtual machine, activate it, and then make backups. You could always then restore the activated virtual machine if it proves necessary.

Please point out to me at which point in "the discussion BEFORE the Steam thing" had any mention of needing an internet connection to run the game, which he mentioned in his post. That indicates to me he was responding to the Steam thing. I don't see anything else in the post that clearly points out he was discussing to "the discussion BEFORE the Steam thing"

I don't see your points anyways. Stop whining about the translation (I have no problems with pointing out things, but this discussion has reached a spam level). If you aren't fine with the product then don't purchase it, end of story.
Heh? All points raised are valid in their own way, I'll admit that much even though I don't agree with some of them.

This is a forum. People are entitled to state their opinions and defend them or express the reasoning behind them--or, rather than entitled, supposed to. That's what people do on a forum. Discussion of said opinions with 2 or more sides are often common in a forum. If you see that as spam... well, that's entirely up to you I guess.

It seems like we're beating long-dead horses and have moved into meta-discussion, trolling, and flaming.

Back on topic, are either of the two games currently available from MangaGamer any good, story-wise, issues of translation aside? Would they stand alone without their H-scenes? I haven't heard of either title before and haven't had a lot of time to go reading reviews.

The two games they have right now are supposed to be decent games and both should definitely be good without the ero. TakaJun is a big fan of OVERDRIVE and Edelweiss was their first game. HinataBokko is a bit short and fluffy, on the other hand.

So far, Edelweiss has been hilarious. I'd probably rate it behind Yume Miru Kusuri and Crescendo, but it's a fair bit better than most story-centered eroge (i.e. that Angel Smile crap, Snow Sakura) released by JAST USA/G-Collections.

Wow, a torrent containing a copy of the translated Edelweiss (labeled as 'uncensored' and 'DRM-free') has already showed up.
Well, for all I know it could be a fake, haha...

To quote TakaJun's blog:
Quote:
Edelweiss: Now, this is a game where the flaws are overwhelmed by the good aspects of the game. The story is convenient again, but the comedy, the songs, and the scenario more than makes up for the flaws. But I'm also biased towards Overdrive ^^ Score: 9
This certainly makes me want to buy Edelweiss more now.

I actually went and downloaded the game off that torrent to check whether it was fake or not. From what I've seen (by hitting ctrl for a few moments), it's the real game.
Mangagamer will certainly be thrilled to find out that Edelweiss is already being distributed with a modified .exe...

It is probably the game though. just out of curiosity Ive checked torrent sites for games I've preordered.... they're usually up before I have my EMS package.

My impression of the translation in Hinatabokko so far is that the mistakes are more characteristic of the stereotypical annoying 13-year-old who's discovered online forums and doesn't believe in punctuation than a non-native speaker with a less-than-solid grasp on the language. It reads like a bunch of chatspeak, with a few feeble attempts to clean it up (for instance, there's one section where someone obviously did a find and replace for "im" to "I'm," resulting in words like "tI'me" and "crI'me".

I know that the usefulness of the editor who is good with English but doesn't speak the original language going through and cleaning stuff up is disputed here, but the readability of this game would be improved significantly by someone doing just that.
