Default Visual Novel Panel at Ohayocon 2008 Prep.

Konnichi wa minna!

My VN intro panel has been accepted to be given at Ohayocon 2008 (Columbus, OH, Jan 4-6)! :D ... as one of the 18+ panels ^^; (reason: Majority of the panel may not be 18+, but the content matter if people should become interested is =P but hey, that means I can use some of the *ahem* material to make fun of myself.)

I'm completely revamping the entire presentation. I'm gonna retain the basics, but trim the fat and get rid of one of the presenation sins, reading my presentation >.<. Some new things I'm adding are more interactive. As if me and the audience is interacting with the characters on the screen aka, my helpers.

Ayu Tsukimiya --> VN Basics
Kohaku --> Anime/Manga adapatations
Taishi Kuhonbutsu --> Doujins
Yumemi Hoshino (Reverie) ---> Translations **still under consideration**
Multi ---> Demonstrations (basically at the start & end of 2 min demos of different games)

Most of these interactive portions are just short little 11 - 20 line skits (longest one being good ol' Taishi with his mother's penchant for circular breathing and father's long speeches. *10 pts. if someone gets the joke*) Later after I've completed the scripts I'll be putting out some casting calls for the voices ;) That's so I look at least half sane talking to a computer screen XD

Well that's all for now. Also if anyone has any suggestions on some newer topics I should touch upon, let me know, I've got 45 mins to fill and the last one wasn't even 30 mins long =P

Ja, ne

Well, for the Anime Adaptations segment, you could try doing something like, running the VN version of a scene, For Example, Archer and Lancer's First fight during the prologue of Fate, and then either beside it, or immediately after, Run the Anime's scene.

That sounds like what I did with one scene from Kanon in my previous one where I had the CG (First one in the game with Nayuki meeting Yuuichi on the bench) morph into the anime... although I bet now if I did it with the 2006 source it'd be a heck of a lot better XD I like the idea of using something like split screen or an inset showing the differences.

Or alternatively for an even greater laugh, since I just realized your panel is 18+... Going along with Fate as the source... Show the Anime version of the shed and the euphemistic dragon, compared to the original three-some! XD

and then you can ask the audience which version they liked better!

XD CG DRAGON!!!
My idea is that you create a small VN to go with your presentation. I made a VN for a project once and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
Example: "Hi, my name is (insert name here) and I will be introducing you to the world of Visual Novels. *then just make ur random scenes* add in crazy choices for more fun."
Oops I'm getting a little carried away here. Just a suggestion though. If you can draw or find someone to make your sprites and CG it will be a piece of cake and a lot of fun to make one though. btw i saw you at the meetup, i liked ur gao t-shirt :P

LOL! Thanks Plastic XD That was Gao Gao v2... which looked a hell of a lot more like the actual shirt from the show since I had the shot freeze-framed while positioning it and it was long-sleeved.

As for creating my own VN, That would be alot of fun, but I think it'll be more interesting if I use some famous icons that people while recognize since part of the description is "for people to recognize shows that they've seen as being from visual novels" hence why Ayu, Kohaku (who was originally gonna be Akane Suzumiya from the beginning of Kiminozo but I couldn't find anyway of getting character gfx from Kiminozo DVD so I had to replace her -_-;), Taishi, etc.

Konban wa minna!

Progress is going on my presentation slowly but surely. I've already have one person who agreed to help me with the voices in it. I'm still waiting for another person I contacted to get back to me. If there are still people interested in helping me out voice wise, the following roles are available (short, sweet scripts)

Ayu *pending reply*
Kohaku
Multi (only like 4 lines since she's like the host for the demos)

Question Graphics mod request

Ohayoo minna-san

I have a modification request for anyone who has more experience in modifying character art than I do.

I was looking through Taishi's art in Comic Party and I noticed that there's no surprised expression, which is one I need for my presentation to work as planned. Can someone take the picture attached and make him look surprised/exasperated?

Thanks!

Did you try mixing up the main sprite image with the various mouth and eye images included in the .pak?

I was aiming more for the more wide eyed, jaw drop kind ;) But that may work. I'll just see when I get the voice clips back from the person who's doing them for me (a super secret special guest who will be revealed at the panel XD )

:D Drag your friends along to! The more the merrier! XD

As far as cosplaying goes, I know I'm gonna be Shiki Tohno and probably just wander around in my Gao Gao shirt (esp. to the ADV VA panel(s) ;)) when I'm not cosplaying. So if you see a cosplayer who's wearing a blue gakuran and a black wig with glasses and a fake knife or some 22 y/o Key fanboy with glasses wearing a Gao Gao shirt most likely carrying AIR and Kanon artbooks for autographs, you know it's me ;)

Still don't know if I should give my panel in my cosplay or just me and my shirt? I could have fun with Kohaku's part in my presentation if I was in cosplay XD

yay!! ^^ I'll look forward to seeing you there. ^^ I'm just putting the finishing touches on my presentation for the panel. Hopefully everything will come together at the last minute and I won't have to resort to Plan B >.<
