So, is the game worth the hefty price tag? I was hoping that it wouldn't be so expensive considering how old it is, but it's still 75 bucks at HimeyaSoft.

HimeyaShop is rarely the best in terms of pricing. Look around. Places like Palet and Mandarake are a lot cheaper (they don't seem to have One, though), and there's always yahoo.jp (through something like Celga).

Yahoo! Auctions Japan, through any deputy service, will usually end up being fairly expensive. Granted, $75 plus shipping (which brings it close to $100) from Himeya isn't great, but deputy services require you to pay for internal shipping (within japan), international shipping, applicable fees/taxes, as well as their own individual service fee, which can quickly add up.

ONE bay be an old game, but I spent $120 on my copy, which Himeya had to obtain second hand. The question should be asked of yourself. Do you think it's worth getting it for a little less than what I paid?

I'd say it's worth it. I spent about $80 at HimeyaShop on it (not including the shipping, which was an extra $20) and I love the game to death.

Don't be afraid to contact Palet and ask if they are able to stock the game. They only times they haven't come through for me are when the game itself is extremely uncommon or out of print (Narcissu, Aka, etc.). As the Vista version was just released they ought to be able to nab one for you, and they somehow often manage to do this at lower-than-retail pricing for new titles.

Aka is out of print? I thought it exists everywhere in the second hand shops in japan. There goes my dream of obtaining a cheap copy then.

I too suggest contacting palet, not being on their catalog doesn't mean they don't have them.

Edit: I've just been informed that 'supercede' may also be acceptable, depending on the dictionary used. Supersede does appear more frequently, though, so it'll probably change in the next patch.

Aka has been out of print for years, but that doesn't mean you can't find it used. Being in print just means the company is still making copies of the game for sale, and since NNS is no more...

I haven't seen any copies for sale yet, but at the same time the handful of shops I've visited are hardly a representative cross-section of the Japanese secondhand market. I did find a copy of White--a first print edition, I think--for a whopping 8500 yen at Sofmap. That seemed a bit much...

I'm just bummed I completely overlooked the time when Palet had a few used copies of Aka for $15.

I did so, and they added it to the catalog. I already bought it (for 69.99$, only 5$ less than in Himeya), but I think that there will be no problem with finding another copy.

Ok... I'm having trouble installing the patch. I have the vista 2007 ver from himeya. Installed it clean, ran the vista installer for the eng patch and... it says files are corrupted, please reinstall game.

Reinstalled game, no dice...

Any help? :(

You'll need to set your system locale to Japanese, as described in the installation steps: http://akane.is.moelicious.be/installation.htm

Otherwise the .msi interpreter will choke on the funny shift_JIS characters

Let it be known as well, for installation, Microsoft AppLocale is not a suitable alternative. AppLocale is useful post-installation though.

Au contrare, AppLocale is actually sufficient. You need to do a bit of fiddling, though.

Including copying the files off the CD, renaming the installer and a few other things I've forgotten about.

However, to avoid all that drama, just follow the install instructions and change your locale properly.

Thanks for the suggestion but my locale is indeed already set to Japanese. I have a good number of other japanese windows games installed so it has to be set to that.

The patch installer runs, i accept the agreement, pick the folder where my original game is installed, the installer tries to verify the data in the folders and spits the error there about the game files being corrupted or changed.

Reinstalling the game hasn't helped one bit. Is anyone else here using the vista compatible version? I just bought it last week so mebbe it's a newer version?

Oh, so the PATCH fails, not One's installation. And you're using the Vista version patch... hrm. Seems like there's a problem with the Vista version patch.

Very odd. I don't have the Vista-compatible version so I can't check it out.
