Ichibancon Visual Novel Panel!

Rai here. And yep, I'm doing it again! I'm doing my VN intro panel at yet another con I'm attending next year. This time it's gonna be at Ichibancon in Charlotte, NC January 7-9.

Panel Title: Visual Novels 101: More than Just Dating Sims and Porn
Desc.: To Heart, Kanon, and Fate stay/night oh my! Visual novels have become an important part of anime mainstream over the past decade. Come and find out more about this rich world which is more than just “capturing the girl”.
Time: Saturday/Sunday 12:00-1:00AM
Place: Panel Room 1

* Same panel as I've done before basically. Same 'helpers', same self-humiliating incorporation of HCG & clips, pretty much same content except for some newer materials I'm adding in and polishing up on the old.

* I will be cosplaying this time as Keima Katsuragi from "The World God Only Knows", possibly presenting in character.

* Gonna be using (O)NScripter this time instead of RealLive. Mainly so I can show off what it can do to the Anime Club I'm in at school who've said they wanna make a VN for the club! XD

* Now with three times the cross-engine hacking than just Kirikiri to RealLive x.x (RealLive, Softpal**, and Kirikiri).

** Why Softpal? Because a certain mischevious, 'catty', Haruhi Suzumiya-look alike is gonna be there to bring me pain O_o; Curse you Noizi Ito and my damn curiosity! >< If someone so as mentions anything about curiosity and a cat, I swear I will break out my Keiichi bat from my Higu cosplay!

As for some of the newer materials, I'm gonna be discussing more on (Fan-)translation and the rise of MangaGamer.

I usually keep a pretty good finger on the pulse of the VN culture but I would like some input on what people think are the top 5 events in the translation/licensing of VN's that have occured within the past few years. and top 5 events in the incoporation of VN's into the mainstream

I think that's enough for now. ^^;

Thanks Mion! I will most likely be looking for assitance when it comes to doing more advanced stuff like understanding sprites and such. I've used (O)NScripter before messing around with window settings because me and a few others were gonna do al|together one year.

Hopefully after this, I can finally get Mizuiro to work as well in ONScripter-En and let my friends play it! XD Stupid Vista and Win7 for not supporting NScripter >.<

Right now I just need to start poking around a few games like I did before with RealLive.

was a good idea but in the end it was full of crap and mediocre titles that gp32 and co. tried to sell off as masterpieces, and nothing groundbreaking came of it

moon was on tlwiki and then ixrec made his own group, so these are grouped together. lots of releases between the two

negotiating with a japanese company? unpossible!

January 7-9 is just the dates of the con in case no one knew. My panel will technically be 12A on the morning of the 9th till 1A.

Now that I've fully recovered from the con, I can go into a bit more detail ^^

1. Due to circumstances, I was unable to do what I had originally intended on doing. Instead I wore my "Gao Gao" shirt and made up a quickie presentation (5 hrs of work) and found out that you could very well make a visual novel by just using Powerpoint O.o... Be more Kinetic Novel like since you can't store variables but still O_O

2. Due to the same circumstances, I didn't have all the A/V aids I wanted to use, so I quickly threw together an op clip real from a selection of VN anime I had laying around for the anime adaptation portion. Still was awesome having Konata introduce it XD

3. There was a great turn out for a small con. I think there were about 20+ people there for my panel. Thankfully I didn't have to walk in on the yaoi panel before hand to start setting up to make my time slot x.x

4. Most importantly, everyone had fun and I got alot of good questions. People were asking me if I was gonna be attending Animazement and do the panel again. I think I will XD (I'm going to Animazement anyways because it's one of my group's fav. cons) Even had someone who had just gotten interested in VN's after watching "Yosuga no Sora" ^^
