I don't have the game on hand to try it out, but turning the sound hardware acceleration down to 'none' in control panel is something that's worked for me with other games.
Edit: Specifically: Control panel -> Sound and Audio Devices -> Audio tab -> (Sound playback) Advanced -> Performance tab -> Hardware acceleration (to 'none') Last edited by AstCd2; 2007-01-24 at 01:04. |

OH GOD THANK YOU. That worked. I can't believe that worked. I tried all this other crap and just ended up with orz after orz. Mucho thanks Ast.

I had the sound problem too. My trial ran out so I can't test it, but it looks like it works, so I'll remember try it out if there's problems with the full version as well ^^

Alas, it would break Hirameki tradition if they released a game with no major bugs =P. Not that it's necessarily their fault, as they don't do the programming for the games, it's the original developers who do.

I don't agree that a time trial is a great idea when the download is over 400 MB. I wish they had put out a real demo, like they did for Ai Yori Aoshi and Ever17.

But Hirameki can't do that. They don't have programmers on staff. Their incapable of creating anything from providing companies code. The providing company does all the coding work and insertion of English into their games. Typically, they dont feel like going out of the way to program a demo if a demo didn't originally exist. The only reason why we got a Ai Yori Aoshi/Ever17 demo's was becuase they were pre-existing in Japan and Hirameki just translated them. In the case of Piece of Wonder, no demo existed. It may not have been the "best" idea, but IMO, it's a lot better then the alternative (which would have been no demo).

Yeah, I don't see it as a bad idea, either. I'm not planning on purchasing the download edition--I love retail boxes too much--but if I were in that position, I'd much rather get a key that unlocks the demo I've already downloaded than have to download the entire 400MB program afterwards. And considering most trial editions for visual novels are over 100MB anyways (with some, like August Soft's Yoake, over 400MB on its own), the difference is pretty trivial. Unless a person's still suffering under dialup, there's no reason why a 400MB download couldn't be started before going to bed or work and be waiting when they return.

I'm not a newbie, I know they don't do game programming. But I observed that they did get demos out before. Now I know why, thanks.
I'm not on dial-up, but a 400+ MB download is a big dent in my monthly 10 GB bandwidth limit. |
