Default An article you might find amusing.

As I recall, Haeleth, you're an artist by profession.

Any comments?

Amusing indeed. I'm not that sort of artist, sadly. (Technically I suppose I'm more of an illustrator / designer / whatever than an artist in the arty-farty-promiscuous sense.)

I think the ones who get all that sex are the sort who live in communes and paint significant patterns while under the influence of class C restricted substances. Whereas I'm the sort who sits in front of a computer with a tablet, not the sort who sits in front of a naked model with a paintbrush, alas. ;_;

A more interesting question is... is that article saying there's a positive correlation between promiscuity and depression? Seems plausible.

Do you suppose the latter causes the former? It's much harder to rationalize it the other way around.

My guess is just that all the depressed people go out and reinvent themselves as 'artists' - thereby skewing the statistics -_-

But if it's an issue solely of self-perception...

Quote:
Furthermore, "this sexual behaviour is tolerated in creative people," Nettle added. "Partners, even long-term ones, are less likely to expect loyalty and fidelity from them."
How do you explain that?

(This isn't a "shooting your ideas down" post so much as "let's discuss this point"... just so nobody takes this the wrong way.)

...

They found that professional artists and poets had between four and 10 sexual partners, while non-creative types had an average of three.
Hot DAMN, three partners? I wish I had that many at one time!

:P

Seriously though, wouldn't everyone want to be an artist, then? Even I could throw paint and lei flowers on a canvas and call it art.

The problem with statistics is that they don't often ostensibly show the cause-effect relations. Instead of 'Artists get laid', I'd be more inclined to believe in a combination of 'Creative and interesting people have a tendency to become artists' and 'Creative and interesting people get laid'.

I think that sex in general leads to depression (it certainly did for me). How many happily married couples have you seen these days?

Funny, I'd always thought that artists were prone to cutting off their ears and yelling a lot.

I think that comes under "depression".

Unless there are whole fields of sexual practice that the eroge industry has neglected thus far.
