Default Prayers to Japan

This thread really has nothing to do with VN but seeing as how the motherland of all VNs is involved in a disaster we might want to offer support and our prayers to those in Japan.

Pray for our beloved Japan and all the souls who lost their lives that day. And may it rise once again into the beatifull country it was.

It seems my friends in Japan are safe and I'm happy for that. But many people died and all I can say is, even though I'm atheist, if heaven exist may they have ascended up to utopia.

you know, Japan wasn't exactly wiped off the face of the map or anything, I don't think we need to be concerned about it "rising again"

Anyway, what happened in Japan is quite shitty. If you're planning to donate, I highly recommend reading this first: http://blog.givewell.org/2011/03/11/...ief-donations/

If you really must donate, based on what I've looked at, donating directly to the Japanese Red Cross is probably the safest bet for the time being. Google has set up a page that allows you to do so. I suppose you could try at a Japanese embassy or something if you wanted to be really hardcore too

I am personally holding off until it's more clear as to whether or not monetary donations are truly necessary. I especially don't recommend giving any money to the American Red Cross at the moment because it is rather unlikely that it will end up being used for Japan.

Having followed news about this constantly for the past few days I'm starting to get a bit burnt out on it all, but Japan has my support, at least.

I gave 20 bucks to Direct Relief Int. since they have an endowment that covers operating costs. So at least the 20 bucks will be going to good use in Japan, and if not japan some other needed place. Although, in all seriousness, that google site would have been helpful if I had found it b4 I gave to DRI. Although, since people in my neighborhood full of immigrant Chinese aren't donating, I'll just justify my twenty as a mediocre make up of those funds. Besides, unlike Haiti, I doubt there will be over solicitation of funds.

Just to be clear, it was a hydrogen explosion at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

Here's a story from cnn.com:

http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapc...ex.html?hpt=T1

A relevant quote from that story:

Quote:
A buildup of hydrogen in the Fukushima Daiichi plant's No. 3 reactor building caused Monday's blast, authorities said, which injured 11 people and sent white smoke billowing above the nuclear plant.

But the explosion did not damage the reactor or result in significant radiation leakage, Edano told reporters.

The explosion blew away the roof and walls of the building housing the reactor, Japan's Kyodo News reported. A similar blast occurred Saturday at the plant's No. 1 reactor.
Not quite a nuclear explosion but still a very bad situation. Hopefully they can prevent a meltdown.

Uhh, the materials used in the actual nuclear reaction can't even explode. They could definitely leak out because of some other kind of explosion, however.

News just keep getting grimmer and grimmer with each passing day. Radiation levels are rising, thousands are living on little food and water and no electricity, the cost of repair is most likely to put one of Asia's richest country in public debt.

I hope it will get better. The news is getting more and more painful.

5pb has cut the price of MO6 on the Apple App Store to $2.99 until March 31st, all proceeds go to the Japan Red Cross, and for the cynical, probably some to Apple as well.
