Default Looking for Visual Novel Creation Community

Hello all. I'm going out on a limb here and making my first post. Some of you may know me as the guy translating Welcome to Pia Carrot. If you don't, don't worry about it.

I've been tossing around the idea of trying to write or make my own visual novel for a while now. However, I work better when collaborating with people who make up for my weaknesses and allow me to focus on my strengths. To that end I thought it might be fun to try to hook up with someone making a visual novel and offer to do the artwork for them.

I'd like for the story to be good and something that I'm interested in, but I may not even be too picky at first. I just think it would be fun to cut my teeth on what is essentially the doujin soft market outside of Japan.

I have a weak/non-representative deviant art page. Does anyone know anyone looking for an artist for their work or where would be a good place to ask around? Thanks!

Primarily, the VN creation people tend to cluster around lemmasoft's forums I think? http://lemmasoft.net/

I mean, sure there's a healthy mix of people who cross forums, heck PyTom visits here pretty regularly, but just as there's people here who have 0 interest in that sort of thing and so don't visit, I'm sure there are people you'd want to talk to there there that don't visit here.

Lemmasoft's definitely your best bet as the forums are pretty closely related to the Ren'py engine which to my knowledge is the only thing that's been used to make English visual novels so far. Of course, insani's got an excellent reference guide to (O)Nscripter, and KRKR2's web documentation is written in fairly simple Japanese (heck, even running it through BabelFish or something will work), but I've yet to see anyone make use of them, and I certainly don't know of any web forums where you'd find much support in their use.

I'm not sure if they're still looking for artists, but you might find the Katawa Shoujo dev blog interesting. It's a western-produced doujin project that's been getting some attention lately.

Thanks guys. That Lemma Soft board looks like it's the right place to be. There's even a Works in Progress & Recruitment forum where you can ask for or offer assistance.

BTW: That Katawa Shoujo blog is pretty cool. Though it looks to me like they have their art taken care of.
