Default I thought the translation phase was over....

I hate to ask this, I know these questions are annoying. But after several weeks have passed since the translations should have been finished (and reportedly were for the most part) I can't help but ask about the status of al|together 2006.

So, any news?

To cut a long story short, while the translations were indeed mostly finished on time, I grossly underestimated the amount of work it would take to prepare those translations for release -- and in the meantime both I and those helping me have been somewhat swamped with real-life work.

Work is ongoing, and releases will begin soon. I greatly appreciate the remarkable patience people have shown in the face of these delays.

Thanks for the hard work. Patiently waiting, but i too had wondered if you'd disappeared... :)

What work is involved? I thought the participants provided a completed product (script insertion and all).
I doubt i could help, nor that you'd trust some random stranger to do so anyway, but i may as well ask...

Since the main activity in the festival is translation, I tried to lower the bar of entry this year by permitting people to enter simply as translators, with programming work handled centrally for them.

That wouldn't have led to this delay, of course, if I hadn't made a silly mistake. What I should have done is impose an earlier deadline for those people, to allow for the central work to be done during the translation time, when I had arranged to be free; or, alternatively, I could have arranged to be free after, not during, the festival. Since I didn't think of either option, naturally the translations nearly all came in at the end... just as my routine returned to normal. With the obvious consequences.

As for what's been involved -- basically checking and correcting translations, inserting scripts, reprogramming games where necessary, contacting copyright holders in one or two cases where permission had not been acquired in advance, and building installer packages. All pretty specialised work, unfortunately. :/

I'd been hoping to release a second batch (insani's being the first) this last weekend, but for various personal reasons that wasn't feasible. But there should be a batch ready soon.

Thank you for the reply. I was also under the impression that the games would be submitted completely finished to you, it's clear that doing all the hacking work afterwards takes a lot of time.

I wish you the best of luck with it, don't feel rushed.

Wow, that sounds like a pretty tall order. Please tell me if there's anything I can do to help. (Probably not, but I thought I'd offer.) Either way, ganbatte, Haeleth-san!

I don't mean to be rude, but... it's been another month and a half, and nothing. What's the problem? Are the games so long? Or is there no time?

I hate to say it, but al|together has become a typical translation thing. Always delayed, no updates, stretching everyone's {my} patience. I hope you can finish it someday, but some updates would really help from time to time. I come here everyday and it's disappointing. :(

From what I know, a batch of at2k6 files should be coming out very soon.

Unfortunately, since Haeleth chose to take on programming and polishing all of this years al|togethers (and there were a lot more then last year), he took on a workload he frankly didnt expect.

IMO, as long as he gets them all out by the end of the year, al|together 2006 will have been a success. Since after phase would normally run to the end of the year anyways.
