Default before you buy ever17 read.

hello all. I am not posting this to scare people away from getting this game but to anyone looking to buy ever17 from hirameki I suggest you wait a couple days and watch their support board. A few of us (myself included) are having trouble with the voices or the lack of voices to be more specific. some people say it's an issue that needs to be patched but from what i've seen.... on the first 3 discs the setup.exe runs and brings us the nice play/install/uninstall type menu system but on the fouth disc which also has what I assume to be the voice file on it (voice.dat) you get a "not a valid win32 program" error which makes me think there was a problem with the burn and the data was corrupted. I'm sure they'll have it sorted out in a couple days or it was a problem with a single batch sent out but keep an eye out before you purchase so you dont have to mail it to them and have to wait for a replacement set of discs like I do :P

on a bright note the game is still playable so far just no voices (^_^)

There's always something... <_<

Apart from the voice issue, how's the game? Decent translation?

From what I have played I would say that this is Hirameki's best translation and you can tell they really put a lot into it. I have Phantom of Inferno and have played through Day of Love a few times and there was a lot of spelling mistakes and times when the script really didn't flow. So far this translation hasn't suffered from any of that. As far as accuracy goes I have not played through the original (and my comprehension level in japanese is relatively low) so I can't comment on that but I can say I am enjoying it.

I just went to install my copy and noticed the same thing. It looks like the voice.dat file on the 4th cd is only 24MB, but accourding to the file's header info, it should've been almost 500MB.

I wonder what they'll do as far as replacement cds, etc.

Awesome, thats just what I wanted to hear. As soon as the voice issue is sorted out I'll be sure to pick up a copy.

hehehe the only problem most of us are going to have right off the bat with the translation is...Tanaka Yubiseiharukana... on the character sheet online they call her Yu for short which is all good and nice... but in the game its "You" which can lead to brain hurties when really tired...... "I'm You!" AHHHH! NOOOO!!! I'm me! not you!!... sorry... need sleep......

onto the voices problem, they are already mailing me out a new disc 4 YaY! So hopefully they have taken the problem copies off the shelf and are only sending out the new batches now...

I was wondering that as well when I was playing through the demo, hahaha.

I am a bit further now. The flow of the writing is still pretty good but ? oddly placed ? questions marks appear every now and then. I am really enjoying the game its a bit of a step up from what i am used to seeing released in english.... (^_^)

I ran into that same phenominon while translating Uta. gp32 said that the best thing to do when you're ? wondering what those questionmarks are doing in seemingly ? random places, is to imagine a little question mark floating above the character's head - like you might see in an anime or manga.

I read a lot of the reviews for ever17 on eroscape, which convinced me that the game actually is part of the genres top tier. I've been playing Clannad for quite awhile now, however i'm not exatly a speed reader in japanese. I'm excited to be able to play ever17 at a decent pace ^^

I actually gave up on clannad for a while. My skill is so low that single sentences were taking a half-hour just to start grasping their meaning (I am not yet advanced enough to read kanji and to be honest still have trouble with sentence structure and particles) so now I am working on the suzuka mangas. I really wish I had more time in the day and more $$ so I could start taking japanese classes again on top of all my computer classes but all this is off topic... I can see how ever17 is considered top teir, I can't seem to stop playing it each night until I am too tired to read.

Ever17 is definately top teir. Hell, it even beats Air and Clannad IMO. The first thing I thought of when I finally beat it is: "Please God, let me forget everything so I can play through this again fresh and without remembering the events."

Just wondering, did you start out on Takeshi's or Kid's path?

Does anyone know if Hirameki ships to Argentina?

By the way, I've been looking forward to both Ever17 and Ai Yori Aoshi, which apparently has been released too. Has anyone played AYA?

Oh, and it may have nothing to do with anything, but I GOT THE JOB. YES!
Sorry, just needed to release the tension I accumulated through many interviews.

No, but I've yet to hear anything good about it. Some players say it's pretty short (the scope being comparable to an episode of the AYA series) and unremarkable.......exactly what you might expect from a game adapted from a manga or anime series. The license is the real selling point.

they will ship out of the US but you need to send them an email first and set it all up. There is more info in their akibaotaku store's "support" section

So do you email them first and then place an order, or place the order then email them?
