Default What made you start playing Romance/Dating simulation games?

What made you start playing Romance/Dating simulation games? That in a nutcase. And what do you like most in the game? < Poll!!>

Personally I've not played many. I acquired one by misstake about a long time ago that was called Kana ~ Imouto. A bit weird game but it really had a nice story. I'd like to play more of these kind of games without the "dirty" CG's that just spoils the game. Anyway, I'd say I like Visual Novell more then, wich is almost the same thing I think. I like a got weepy story even if I am not to much of a weeper :P, but they're still all good. I especielly like most of the music in these game's they always seem to have a nice catchy tune. But the Story would come first then the art and lastly the Music.

So how bout you?

it would mainly be artwork. that's what got me started, but eventually it moved to storyline once i started actually paying attention to the dialogue.

I am a fan of NekoNeko Soft games.

Hm... People who have played NekoNeko Soft games should understand what I mean.

Story, for sure.

In fact thats really what drew me into the whole arena of japanese entertainment. On US tv, you will be damn dissapointed if you are looking for somthing that tells a real story.

After slumming my way through some of the 'unmentionable' anime series out there *cough inuyasha*, i began to realize that just because it was anime didnt mean it was good .. i started the task of homing in on what exatly it was that i was after.

Many moons (several years actually) later, the Air anime pretty much typified everything i have been looking for in my entertainment - compelling characters, a touching story that even had a little action, and a lot of emotion. that (and kimi ga nozomu eien) are what convinced me that the games these things come from might not be restricted to the sex-romps of legend. After seeing those two series, Misu pointed me in the direction of gp32's wonderful translation of planetarian (we dont all warez!!), which convinced me that i had to see what else i was missing.

After that i was hooked - and i suppose it was inevitable that i'd end up here..

As nice as it is to have a decent plot, I'd be willing to settle for a game with a clever or interesting style of writing. The former has always been pretty rare, but there are a significant number of games with the latter.

story.

my first "dating game" was majipuri trial.

i likt the stories, the music etc. and i like that you can play like in the old adventures (monkey island..) not action etc. but relaxing slow gameplay.

what i don't like are the hentai scenes of the pc versions. for me they are ruining the mood of the game.

but if you want "the whole game" you have to buy the 18+ versions because if you not buy it, it can be that there is missing some sides of the story etc.

i think that's unfair.

also i think it's a little strange that a few japanese have a "sister complex"??

i mean, i never played kana - little sister, but isn't that game about a incestious relationship?

i don't like thoise "sister " games :)

I like visual novels for all of the reasons listed. The art is what got me into them, but I wouldn't have stayed very long if the storylines were as dry as Final Fantasy. Also, it helps (?) that FPSes make me literally nauseous.

(Tale of Genji spoilers ahead)

Stepsister, half-sister, or similar. These have been around in Japanese romance for over a thousand years. Genji lusted after more than one sister, and actually had a little affair with his stepmother. It's not a "complex" like the lolicon as much as a favorite spice for romance novels.

Alrighty... I'll be honest.... it was because of H, but that changed overtime. My views about these H-Game, Eroge, etc. changed after I played "Nocturnal Illusion, Mayclub, Seasons of Sakura, and Kurenai Namida". The thing that was going on in my mind was "Wow! I can't believe a game like this can have a great story". After that, I discovered about visual/game novel that doesn't include H-Scene (well just recently, and that's because of Air TV)

What do you like most in a game
Arts
Gameplay
Hentai O_o?
Story
Music
Or just everything...

What I liked most in a game?
It's problematic...

Well...
I Liked Unreal Tournament becahse this game has a Good gameplay
I Liked Fallout 2, Septerra Core and Kanon because these games has a Good history - Although I prefer Fallout 2 :)
I Liked the Total Annihilation Orchestral Music
I Liked Most my games because he has Good arts (CGs, Grafics...)
Well, I didn't know that kanon is a Hentai Dating simulator game...
I've discovered this when I've gotten the game and I have used the 100% saved game... But i Liked the Kanon's hentai scenes too :)

For me, a Game MUST HAVE:
1° => A good story (Ex: Fallout and your pos-nuclear story)
2° => Good gameplay (Ex: Unreal Tournament have NO a good history, but has a good gameplay! UT RULEZ!)
3° => Game Arts
4° => Music (But it isn't too important...)
5° => Hentai scenes (Why not!? :P)

Well, I prefer ALL elements for a game choice...
Because of this, I prefer ALL the elements in a game :)

Before I forget:

Well...
I Liked the Kanon screenshots when I saw in the 1st time in a site (I forget the name, but it have not the H-images)...
When i've discovered that Kanon is a game...
Well, I don't wanna know whoch type of game Kanon was, I WANT the game!
and I get it :)
So, I saw Kanon is a Hentai Dating simulator...
... with:
1° => Great Arts
2° => Cool music
3° => Simple gameplay (It wasn't gratify me in a game... much)
4° => Good story (I've searched - and found - the game and the anime story :) )
5° => The last, but NOT least important: Hentai Scenes :D

Well, when I search a game, I search, AT LEAST, Good arts, story and gameplay. Music and H Scenes are good too, but isn't too important for a game to me :P
And Kanon has some of all elements that I search in a game :)

see ya next post!

Art is a must, without good art I won't be convinced to order the thing (still looking at OneFV and wandering when will I be disprate enough to play it).

Gameplay only if it is a 3D game, or an rpg. Otherwise... what gameplay are you talking about?!

Hentai... to tell the truth, I'd rather have lots of fanservice then hentai :)

Story... without a plot or a mission everthing becomes boring after a short while (I mean, how many outthere will try to imagin themselives in Quake?!)

Music is nasacery for the sceans to be in the right mood.... but that about it ;)

P.S. it might be intreasting to have a poll compering, LoveDeath, School Days, Manmade Young Woman and normal dating sims. And see which one is the preferade style for a game :)

Well, for me it started when I heard of Tokimeki Memorial Somewhere.

I eventaully found a ROM for it as some point and struggled trough it. I found a half-guide and a completely useless partial english patch.

Played through the SNES ROM going off facial expressions alone to guide me, hoping I could get the girl I was pursuing.

Eventually it ended..... To this day I do not know If I actually won her heart, or if my "best friend" stole her away from me.

Though Considering what I know now about these games, I think i was successful...

But Anyway. From there... I started to bloom. I haeard of Kanon, AIR, and Clannad.

But I wasn't until I got up here at college that I managed to find this forum, underway patches, etc. and well I think I've kinda exploded into the genre since.

Before I forget:

I prefer the First Person Shooteres (FPS)/Third Person shooters (TPS), Such as Unreal Tournament (After the UT, Quake 3 to me is, simply, more one FPS game...), SWAT 3, Hitman, Kingpin - Life of Crime, Descent 3 (I Know, Descent 3 is a Spacial First Person shooter, but i like of this game! :) )...

BUT it doesn't mean I don't like games of the Kanon style...
However, kanon was my first (and last, at least to 14/09/2005 - TODAY) Dating sim game...

well...

It's enough fot today :P

see ya next post!
