Yume miru kusuri, Familiy Project, Crescendo, Aoi Shiro.
Kana is supposed to be good, but I haven't played it. Sagara Family was a great comedy, but it's been a long time since I played it. Utawareromono has also got very good ratings at Erogamescape. Partly an SLG, but very easy. Don't play the English translated games by C's ware. The horrible translation ruins them, although some of them are supposed to be great if you believe Erogamescape's ratings. |
Forgot to mention Bible Black.

Himeya Soft
Eve Burst Error *Desire seems pretty good too, but I haven't played too much of it G-Collections (original) Crescendo JAST USA Yume Miru Kusuri Hirameki International Ever17 (shit writing when the drama hits; great mystery/atmosphere/pace/narrative; cheesy conclusion) Phantom of Inferno *Yo-Jin-Bo seems pretty decent if you're into female-oriented games, but I haven't finished this one MangaGamer Edelweiss (crap plot; great characters, great atmosphere, great sexual humor) Kira Kira (some of the best character writing for eroge) Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Episodes 3 and 7 suck, but keep with it. Writing is shit when the drama hits, but it's passable most of the time) Fan-translated Remember11 (none of the shit writing from Ever17, but mystery and sense of tension aren't as good. Script is godly and a huge improvement) Tsukihime (shit of shit writing but boy is it engrossing) Kanon Not bad but YMMV - all fairly popular and/or acclaimed Suika (stilted scripts) Da Capo (shallow moe; overblown melodrama; not half bad for a character game) Planetarian Narcissu 1+2 (exaggerated drama; too pretentious for its own good) Family Project (poor pacing; dull fluff up the wazoo; witty script with some tender moments) ONE (Kanon prototype) Umineko no Naku Koro ni (most of the same strengths and weaknesses as Higurashi but pacing is seriously bogged down by pseudo-intellectual musings) Haven't really touched Eien no Aselia, Swan Song, or the Leaf games (Tears to Tiara sucks so far), so I can't conclusively say anything about them. Aoishiro is aesthetically pleasing, but that's about the only good thing about it. |
SEGA CD version of Snatcher (if it counts as a VN)
|
Symphonic Rain (good musical visual novel with late drama)
Kanon Clannad (Maybe I don't have to say much about this VN :) ) Cross Channel (utsuge by Romeo Tanaka) |

@fujifruit: cross channel's drama is quite good, so is the "depressing element".
And I personally hate the ending >_< (though it can't "hit you for the rest of your life" as Mokyu said, though =) ) I highly recommend that you pick Symphonic Rain >_< This VN's 10 songs are the last ten songs composed by Ritsuko Okazaki. They're very wonderful! :) |
Might want to try Princess Waltz by Peach Princess. Its add a new prespective to VN as a whole as it incoporates card battles. Or maybe even Eien no Aselia, an SRPG VN.

Might be easier just to find this stuff yourself rather than bugging people for recommendations all the time.
This is a listing of almost everything that has been translated into English from the front page here: http://translationlibrary.blicky.net..._vnlibrary.htm Match those titles against the ratings on vndb and try and figure this out yourself. |

That is why I ask people they answer why you should read it. |

Ratings are a guide, nothing more nothing less. Sometimes they are useful, sometimes they are not. However, saying vndb ratings are "useless" is an overstatement. |
EGS's ratings aren't really much better (simply due to being a rating site, I suppose) but you can at least be assured that the people there played the game in its original form and understood it properly.
As for translated games, play Saya no Uta. It probably has the best ratio of translation quality to game quality. |
It depends on the people, Moogy.
I personally can't stand Saya's guro element and twisted plot. >_< (especially the scene when the two shared the "meal" >_<) |

while eating the "pasta" Saya no uta Says it is short.. I checked it out on Erogeshop and it was 65$ if I remember clearly .________. |
I enjoyed Saya wholly. It was twisted and guro enough to make me enjoy it.

I cant seem to find a copy of Symphonic Rain...
Himeya shop does not have it Amazon is..Expensive ._. |
It's Out-Of-Print, if I were to remember correctly.
|
Makoto and I must be the only people who see Saya as a pure love story...
|
Well there's that aspect...
But there's so much more that makes it better than just a pure love story! |

There seems to be a copy or two of it on YAJ. Here's an auction that ends in 11 hours.
