Celsius Speaking of Ever 17, I just finished reviewing it here: http://anime.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=2782

A title that truly deserves to do better in my honest opinion. It's one of the high license fee titles and is basically one of NA's chance for even bigger titles. I know they said they'd consider Memories Off if this title is able to do well.

And I'm not into buying a game just to support a company. I mean, yes support the good ones, but buying crappy games will make the company think they can get away with such nonsense and thus will very likely do it again.

Actually, we really don't have to do a damn thing. As consumers, the only responsibility we have to Hirameki or any other anime or game distributor is to pay money for a title we want to experience, but we are no way required to keep buying subpar titles or ones we're not interested in with the intent of keeping them going. It is the vendor's responsibility to create a product that the customer will want to buy and as such the burden of proof will fall on them. I really doubt many people will ever be taken in by a company's claims of "buy our mediocre stuff now and we'll do good things later, we promise." If you somehow feel a personal responsibility to them after these promises--well, I've got a bridge to sell you when you're done aquiring the Hirameki back catalog. Either way, I bought my copy of Hourglass of Summer because I was interested in the game, I'll most likely grab Ever 17 at some point, but beyond that Hirameki deserves no more of my money with their current offerings.

Shii If you're that concerned, why don't you become an "angel investor"? It would be fun to give this forum a communal stake in Hirameki.

AstCd2 While I admire your motives, I can't but help question whether it's rational to buy games you aren't really interested in in the expectation that this will lead to the company licencing bigger titles.

The fact is, individual consumer preference isn't the issue - companies like Hirameki are well aware that they could sell something popular like Air to nearly every consumer in the existing western renai market. The real problem lies within the fact that these games have licence fees that could still make the project unacceptably risky even if the game sells fairly well, given the small size of this market. The unattractiveness of this as a business proposition isn't going to change even if the company's profits rise from the same set of fans buying more of its lower profile titles.

I have no doubt that Hirameki honestly does intend to pursue these big titles if their sales go up, but what I imagine they mean is more sales from a widening consumer base rather than existing customers amongst multiple titles. If you're aiming to give them a push, you'd do better to introduce your friends to the scene (or artificially inflate the current market figures by buying a dozen copies of one existing title =P)

zalas If I can bump into more female fans at the Hirameki booth, and if they help keep the company afloat, then more power to them XD

Frankly, I'll buy any and every Hirameki title, even if it's not supposed to be very good (Dragonia, Ishika and Honori), or even if it's a bishonen title (which normally wouldn't interest me at all). Why? Because no matter what they choose to release, we have to buy it if we want them to stay afloat. They've already pretty much told us flat out, the more we buy, the better titles they'll be able to release. And all of the really really good visual novels are bishoujo ones anyway (I'm sorry but that's just a fact, am I correct in considering bishonen is a pretty new sister-genre of bishoujo?). I mean, there's no bishonen equivilants to Kanon, Air, and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. So if you go ahead and buy their bishonen products and their cheaper aquisitions, as little as you may actually want the particular title in question, you'll probably begin seeing higher-caliber BISHOJO titles.

Still, that being said, it's completely reasonable that they release bishonen titles (the few that there are) along with bishojo titles, they're visual novels too, and I'm sure females wouldn't enjoy playing bishojo titles and more than males enjoy playing bishonen ones.

That looks like Ojo (aka The Girl With No Name) from Suika (another Circus title). I wouldn't be surprised if she's supposed to be the same character, considering what she really is.

Celsius Some nice bits about failed acquisiton attempts. Piece of Wonder isn't a new title announcement though, for it was announced sometime last year. The June release they announced in February does seem a bit doubtful though. . .

Making Piece of Wonder downloadable with internet connection required to play is a bit of a surprise I guess. Especially after the heat that G-Collections received, leaving Peach Princess to clean up after.

Thanks for reporting it! I'll re-report the download bits with credit.

zalas I didn't have a chance to look at the forum before the panel, but I think I've managed to cover most of the questions Celsius raised except for Never7, etc.
