Other news... for the first time in a year, there's active discussion on the GBATemp forums about a potential fan translation of Otometeki Koi Kakumei Love Revo (thread at http://gbatemp.net/t212409-help-tran...umei-love-revo ). It's far too early to say if it will get anywhere. But if anyone's interested in helping, this is probably the right time to offer assistance.

Also, a product which *may* be a translated visual novel -- Square Enix's iOS game Summer Story. This is a game in which the player uses an Apple iDevice with an internal microphone (or one that works w/external microphones), in order to learn how to pronounce words in English. It's presented with 2D graphics and cute non-Japanese girls. It's worksafe. While all the text is apparently in English, the game was probably created for native Japanese speakers. Regardless, it's available on iTunes at http://itunes.apple.com/app/id432292560?mt=8# . Look into it if you're interested. If it's not really playable in English, or not really a VN, just say so.

Its about 80% english

The intro, various explanations and choices are all in Japanese.

if I remember correctly, it was a small booklet, so it should be inside the DVD jewel case and not a separate item.

I tried to buy Koihime from MangaGamer but they continue their asinine IP block on all of Japan. So, instead I bought a random game from JAST, and I will pirate the Koihime translation... しょうがない・・・

We're sorry about the IP block, since you seem to be one of the few English speakers actually affected by this, but it's measures to keep the games in their uncensored form out of Japan, where that would be illegal to possess.

We're sorry for the inconvenience, but I think you're also the only one having issue with it, and since the makers of these games reside in Japan, they have to take precautions to abide by Japanese law.

I'm actually more surprised that J-list is letting you procure their uncensored games in Japan, since that would be illegal......

J-List won't ship them to Japan but probably only checks download games by the region of the credit card used.

Yes its still illegal but couldn't Shii just use a proxy to buy Koihime from MG?

AFAIK, JAST doesn't sale their title in Japan, but, since their products are sold as a physical product, you end up with some stores importing it to Japan, as well as some online stores that doesn't mind shipping to Japan. So there is a walk around for the restrictions. (hey, that is how we get our Japanese eroge!)

MG have more control over this since their games are only available digitally.

I didn't use J-List, I bought it directly from JAST on their website. I downloaded it from their server and there was no region block.

I'm still not going to send my credit card info over an insecure proxy.

Sorry for bringing this up like four different times, even though there are only two translated game vendors I seem to frequently forget that I can only buy from one of them. (And yes, I buy plenty of Japanese language stuff too)
