Default Has anyone played Cross + Channel? (spoilers)

One of my fav visual novels, but a few things left me wondering since my Japanese is not that good, and wherever I go everyone never answers my questions because they're like, "It's better to experiance it yourself." and what not. But I really want to know! I can't sleep at night!

I really love the characters in this game. The music is good and the end theme is very nice. Would be neat to see an anime of it but I really doubt it because it would just cheapen the humor and everything.

Maybe, if anything, they'd make a C+C anime it would probably be rated 18+ like the Shuffle anime and Elfen Lied.

Even then, the H scenes are important to understanding the main character, but I guess they could always do whatever they did for the PS2 adaption. I heard that got weak reviews though.

Also, I doubt anyone would want to watch a show where it "resets". Even though, Higurashi sort of does that. So, maybe there is hope. Higurashi reminds of C+C in that respect.

So thats the deal with Taichi? Wow, I expected something deeper than that, but pretty unexpected. Ah, so that's who Yutaka is. I was wondering who that guy was.

I feel kind of let down, I guess because I had so many neat ideas that I thought was going on and now that I know. Meh.

Ah, the guide really does go into detail? That's cool. I downloaded it a few months ago. I was actually thinking of translating it since I like the game alot and it's only a few pages or so.

Well, thank you for your input Nanatuha

I'm glad if you refrain to say "download" definitely here.
I have no intention of stopping others, but it's contrary to my manner.

Go to Shii's page :p
As you may have seen, I'm almost done with my first-pass translation of Cross Channel. But heh if you want to help, you're welcome.

I dunno if we have a translation help kind of board but could someone look over my translation of the song Crossing from this game? There were a few lines that I'm not sure of so I left blank and a few lines that I tried to traslate but I'm not sure.

Also, what does the te form followed by a form of the verb iku (to go) mean? Does it have any special meaning because sometimes... Well, more like a lot I see it with motion verbs but the act of going is already implied with the verb so I don't know if its a Japanese grammer thing or what. Either way as it is, it doesn't translate into english.

Crossing

絶望でよかった、虚無だけを望んだ
Despair was good, only nothingness was desired.

約束と絆と、思い出と時間と
Promises, bonds, memories, and time.

それだけが、乾く命を、潤す
Just that much moistens the dry mortal life.

きしむ心をやさしく、包み込む
Tenderness wraps up the grating heart.

世界と自身とを、わかつ壁は
A divided wall, the world and one's self

人をかたどり閉じこめる檻
People imitate being put into a shut cage

そしていつかは寂しさから手をのばし
And one day from loneliness extend your hand

優しく、傷つけあって
Tenderness, there is injury

消えてゆく世界をただ眺め続けた
Only the scenes continued in the vanishing world.

吐き出した悪意が、空に引き裂かれた
Spat out malice but it split the sky

いつまでも、続く毎日、夢見て
Forever, everyday it continues, dreaming.

いたむ心を抱えて、さまよった
Wandering about carrying a damaged heart

たとえば孤独なら、傷つくのは

一人ぼっちの自分だけだと

そしていつかは寂しさから手をのばし
And someday from loneliness extend your hand

甘美な、回顧に揺れて
Sweet, shaking recollections

ざわめく
Noisy.
人の記憶
Are people's memories.
この空がなくなる
This sky vanishes.
その日までは
From this day on,
生きていこう
Living

世界と自身とを、交差させる
The world and one’s self cross.
言葉、伝えるためのCHANNEL
Words, a channel in order to communicate.
そしていつかは寂しさから両手広げ
And someday from loneliness extend both hands
錆つく、世界を、抱いて
Embracing the world, it rusts.

I don't know. Not a very happy song, I think. I've glaced over some reviews and people like Crossing. Maybe I'm misinterpreting the song's lyrics. Still, I think the song holds a hint to the last sentence in the game.

The form verb~ていく indicates one of two things:

1. The verb is performed before the performer goes somewhere:
(eg. 宿題をやっていきましょう - 'Let's do the homework and then go')

2. The verb describes a progressive process that is 'in motion':
(eg. 年を取っていく - 'I'm getting older'、
時間はどんどん過ぎていく - 'Time marches on [passes by rapidly]')

「絶望でよかった」 is an expression of the speaker's opinion - ie. 'I was fine with despair'. Similarly, I would have also interpreted 「虚無だけを望んだ」 as conveying the speaker's own feelings - ie. "I wanted nothing but emptiness."

やさしく is an adverb modifying 包み込む, making it 'gently enveloping'. The subjects of this sentence are actually the four things described two lines above.

This should be 'A wall dividing the world and myself'.

人 is the object of the sentence - thus, as abstract it sounds, the sentence literally becomes 'A cage that bases its shape on people and confines them.'

傷つけ合う means 'to hurt one another'. The line is thus 'Gently, we hurt each other'.

消えてゆく世界 is the object of the line, which literally becomes 'We just continued to gaze at the disappearing world'.

Despite the comma, が here is not used in the 'but' sense, but to denote the malice as the subject of the sentence. My interpretation of the line would be something like 'The malice [that I/we] spat out rent the sky asunder.'

続く is actually a modifier of 毎日, making it 'the [ever-]continuing everyday'.

My interpretation of these lines is:
"Should I be lonely, then [I believe]
the only one who would be hurt is my solitary self."

揺れて is passive, making the sentence 'swayed by sweet recollections'.

その日までは is actually 'until that day'.

錆つく is used here to describe the world.
Thus, the sentence literally becomes 'Embrace the world that rusts'.

Hope that was of some help!

Ah, thanks alot AstCd2. You pointed out a lot of the same mistakes that I was doing. Some of them I really shouldn't have made... :( I'll have to make a note of that. Some of those things I didn't even learn yet.

Also, how did you know 傷つけあって meant 傷つけ合う. I often have trouble in cases like this when the kanji isn't used. Do you just pick up on it over time?

Lastly, that website doesn't work.

Pretty much. The context is usually helpful, though.

I messed up the HTML. The actual address is fine if you copy-paste it into the URL box.

I've been wondering, what makes Miki so popular among fans? She's the only character that sings the end song also and she has a character song, Reset.

Miki is arguably the cutest and most interesting girl. Her scenario is one of the best, and her flowers combi with Kiri is just great.

This poetry actually seems quite dry... though maybe that's because it's 50/50 art/writing thing with Japanese poetry (though that's speculation).
