Extra scenes or not, anyone thinking of *buying* this should consider that it was publically announced that these are simply the DVDs upscaled with some filters applied. You will *not* be getting HD Air.

Which is bullshit, but I'm guessing there's nothing they can do about it as Kyoani don't even make their current stuff in HD in the first place. E.g. Kanon, even though it's airing on BS-i in 1080i, it's just a horrible upscale (there is a site somewhere with a DVB MPEG2-TS dump if you want to check it out yourself...)

The new long openings are in HD, though the series was upscaled to HD quality. Just wanted to make that clarification =P.

Is there any difference between Type A and Type B?

Type A doesn't work for me. It'll load for a while, then the bar will go full red, but I go only 7 seconds into it before it "ends". And as far as I know, there's no way to fix it.

Argh.

B has character silhouettes, A doesn't (or was it the other way round?). Youtube doesn't do regular resolutions justice though, never mind HD. I'd check Stage6 but it's 'down for maintenance'.

Anyway, I got mine yesterday :) Never bought the DVDs and this was going to work out cheaper so... now I just need a HDTV and a bluray player >_> It's so small, like double the thickness of a regular DVD case but not as tall as one.

My set is "hopefully" coming in the mail soon. Unfortunately like Varion, I'm out of a BluRay player. Where is one of those damn PS3s when you need them ><. At least I have the HDTV...?

does anyone here already own the blu ray version?

i thought i wouldn't buy it,because of the upscale thing, but when i saw some other (upscaled) blu ray movies the other day on my shopping tour..... i changed my mind. i think blu ray will crush hd dvd. its much more resistent about "influences" (like the good old cd) and hd dvd is just a "better dvd" with the same cheap material. the blu ray disc is much more resistent.

and the quality is real good, even with upscaled movies.

i think i will buy the air blu ray box (my late christmas present :P)

Photos! I apologise for how shoddy some of them came out, but it's getting dark stupidly early here lately and I don't exist in the mornings, so I've gotta make do with the flash. Which doesn't like shiny surfaces at all. Those ones above are like the best of 20 attempts at each. Kanna came out the worst because her side of the box is stuck down so I had to hold the other discs from falling on top of her.

Anyway the HDTV I wanted has gone down in price now so I'll probably pick it up when I get my next student loan (lol, how fast can I spend it without having a single drink?) installment in January. Then it'll just be waiting for the PS3 to come down to at least RRP or something.

For those who want to preview the Type A (and much better quality!):
