Because it's a bad eroge. I love slice of life. Shuffle! is about poorly designed characters in a poorly designed plot and five routes that all unfold in the exact same way. I'm fine with slice of life, I'm fine with bakage, but Shuffle! doesn't really do anything else all that well! Shuffle! had a lot to live up to as the long-awaited followup to Sore wa Maichiru Sakura no Youni by a shiny new company. It DIDN'T, it so DIDN'T that I'm even more ashamed of it than Seinarukana.

The most probable explanation I can see is zalas taking the article down because of NNL’s trolling/complains, though I still hope that I’m wrong and there are some other reasons behind it. Because if my guess is right it is really and totally lame.

For an unforeseen reason, I lol'd

I believe the minori-NNL cooperation came about (at least in part) due to:

1) minori wanting a piece of the overseas pie
2) NNL getting more and more srs with their trolling (standalone supah edition)
3) minori finally realising that their road towards 'overseas expansion' is cockblocked by (an unpleased) NNL

As such, they'd have to rope NNL in onto their overseas business in case NNL complains about 'differential treatment' and started re-releasing standalone translated minori game collections.

I think that's more of an optimistic view. I doubt minori had any serious interest in selling games overseas given the hassle and potential legal issues.

However, now that an unofficial English version is out, they have little to lose. People are going to play ef overseas anyway, so they might as well limit illegal distribution, monetize the English version, and make the best of a bad situation.

Had NNL backed off on the English release, this deal would probably have never happened.

How did zalas even get all that info? I'm glad I read through all that before it was taken down, but that was a serious level of detail, as if he'd interviewed someone personally involved (multiple people?) and squeezed them for all they were worth.

I'm very sad it was taken down. That was some great info into a rather complex affair.

I had a thought. Is NNL getting paid for the translation, and if so, is the money going to go to the right people? Gippy didn't do the actual translating for ef, so it wouldn't be fair for him to line his pockets.

You could say the same about any company (or TLWiki). There's the talent and the people who organize that talent. Usually, the latter benefits the most, although you could argue that the ability to manage talent is a valuable service on its own.
