Problem with translating a Kirikiri game trial

For fun, I extracted and translated the script of the drama CD trial version for Himawari, then used krkrrel to pack it into a patch.xp3 file and put it in the directory folder. But for some reason, the game keeps coming up with an error message that says "ANSI characters can't be changed into Unicode" when I try to run the game, even though I saved the script .ks file in Unicode format. Should I try packing it with some other software, or is there another possible problem? My computer is in Japanese locale, so that shouldn't be the issue.
