Default suggestions?

Hello all!

I'm looking for some good, non-eroge NScripter games. Because I use Mac OS X, they *must* be NScripter.

Thanks everybody.

Translated or not? Freeware or not?

If you want short, free translated ones, check out the previous al|together entries. http://altogether.insani.org/

I assume you mean in English? I haven't played any commercial NScripter ones myself (except one Hirameki converted to DVD) but I can recommend some doujin ones available from this very site.

There's "Narcissu" of course. http://narcissu.insani.org/

I highly recommend "A Dream of Summer" also. There is a bit of(largely skippable) panty shots but absolutely no sex or nudity. At Summer's End is a much shorter piece by the same group. "A Midsummer's Resonance" is good also if you like romance tinged with science fiction. Lastly, "Red Shift" is also an excellent piece.

None of these except for "A Dream of Summer" have multiple endings but they are all worth playing I think. If you are looking for commercial games Hirameki's line of DVD player games may be worth a looking in to. Their non-bishoujo games (Yo-Jin-Bo and Animamundi) are Mac compatible also. http://www.hirameki-int.com/

Personally, I recommend dual-booting or running Parallels. You really do cut out a lot of nice visual novels if you stay with the portable ones. That said, Narcissu and most things in al|together are good nscripter games. Tsukihime is another good nscripter game, but it's commercial and becoming very hard to get legitimately. (I'm counting this one because the English translation patch has an all-ages option, so it can still fit your non-ero requirement).

I've seen most of the all|together stuff before -- I was wondering more about untranslated NScripter stuff; I'm looking to expand upon my current knowledge of visual novels.

Shii made a list of them here: http://www.shii.org/translate/nscripter

It's not a very long list, and it's a little bit dated now (not many new games are written in nscripter nowadays though). The problem is that I don't know of any similar lists. You can find a lot of nscripter games on various freeware lists and on doujin sites, but I don't know of any good lists consisting of just nscripter games, so that might be a bit more trial-and-error than you want to go through.

But if you want one nscripter game to keep you busy for a bit, go play bye. It's long enough that you won't finish it in a day, so go for it.

NScripter's not used much anymore? Huh...

Anyhow, thanks. I will check that out.

Well, nowhere near as much as it used to be. There are still a bunch of circles using it, but it's nothing like the time where new free nscripter games were coming out all the time. I predicted people would mostly move to krkr, but I haven't seen a great increase in the number of krkr games.

'Yes' and 'no' respectively.
It's very inexpensive compared to commercial games, though.

First of all, Higurashi ni Naku Koro ni is not a single game. It's a series of games. Second, you can get copies of at least the most recent game (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei, the fandisc) from Palet.. they don't stock the earlier titles, though. As doujin games they aren't necessarily the easiest to find, but peek around.

EDIT: huh, well, Himeya is selling this: http://www.himeyashop.com/product_in...oducts_id/2237 - they're just calling it 'Higurashi no Nakukoro ni'. From the cover, it looks like Himatsubushi-hen, but you never know. They might just be doing something weird.

GOOOOOOOOD!

I didn't watch the anime and I haven't even reached the Kai chapters yet, but I already consider it to be one of my favourite games XD.
