Default al|together 2006

デキタ━━━━━(゚(゚∀(゚∀゚(☆∀☆)゚∀゚)∀゚)゚)━━━━━!!

Call for participants: al|together 2006

AL|TOGETHER is an annual online festival of translated free interactive fiction, with a focus on visual-novel-type titles. It has two goals: to provide a fresh challenge to translators of all levels of skill and experience, and to increase the repertoire of these games available to English-speaking fans. Participants attempt to localise a game completely within the span of one month, at the end of which their work is released for the public to enjoy.

The second event will run from 19th July to 18th August 2006.

Submissions are encouraged from any translator with an interest in the genre. While the focus is on Japanese works, we are aware that excellent work is being produced in other languages, and translations from Chinese, Korean, etc. will be welcomed. The target language(s) should be/include English. Registration, which is optional, is open immediately.

For further details please see the festival website, or contact the coordinator at at2006_at_haeleth_dot_net.

So much for the formalities. :P
Feel free to inform anyone you know who might be interested in taking part, or to post the above CFP in any forums you frequent where it would be appropriate.

Does this mean I have to be at home this July? I was hoping to abandon myself and wander hither and thither like Yukito.

My new favorite time of the year!

About the announcement on the main page, man, you need to rethink your priorities.
I mean, Makoto before Nayuki?

That depends what you mean by "second grader"! If you can find an example of the sort of text that will stretch you without being impossible, then we may be able to find a game that uses language at a similar level. Or one that's short enough that the difficulty level is less critical. ;)

For example, how would you have got on with something like かわいそうな小鳥 (which Ed tackled last year)?

There are plenty of other skills that are just as essential in small projects as in large ones: editing, testing, programming, graphics adaptation, and the list goes on. So there should be plenty of scope for people to participate whose talents lie in areas other than translation.

Perhaps I should create an area for people to discuss possible partnerships?

That'd be great! I know my way around Makefiles and Photoshop, and am willing to edit or test, so hopefully someone will find a use for me :)

.... in all honesty that sounds perfect... Personally, I'll be in class during that month taking JAPN202 by then.

And While i really want to try my hand at translating something, my photoshop skills = null, and I know zilch about hacking things out to work with.

If I have a dictionary on hand, I can definitely tackle something like that!

My Photoshop skills aren't too bad, and I've played around in ONScripter...

I think I may participate this year. I've got nothing to do this summer break, save a week-long hiking trip in June, and possibly blow things up to show my patriotism in July.
