Default 'First' viewers pick plot drama?

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/26092005/32...pick-plot.html

Just something I found interesting, a tv drama that claims to be the first drama to let viewers pick the plot and be like nothing else.

First thing I thought was Kanon and other similiar games. O.o Is it just me that sees the similiarity? This would be limited to only the game versions, but they're still drama's of sort.

Just a interesting little comparison I found anyway. ^^;

It would be a good way to do the anime version of a game - you could let the viewers vote on which girl to end up with. ^_^

Leaving the fans whose favoured heroine wasn't picked fuming, no doubt =P
Now, what was it Winston Churchill once said...?

"Madam, I may be drunk, but you are ugly; and I shall be sober in the morning!" or something like that.

Was that the quote you were after?

That's very profound, but I was thinking of
"It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government, except all the others that have been tried."

What might work better is if viewers voted on all of the multiple-choice options that came up - that way, fans could continually attempt to steer things in the direction of their preferred heroine's route, ensuring much-o profitability for TV Tokyo and VA.

and then when the divided viewer base gets the 'yukito leaves town early' ending, all hell breaks loose =p

We did a check around and there is nowhere in the world we could find where there has been viewer-led interactive drama.

If "School Days" counts, then so does "Wing Commander 3", which got there a good decade earlier. I think what C4 are referring to is TV drama directed by many viewers to a unique ending, not just a multiple-choice drama that each individual viewer can control and replay to try out all the endings. It's nothing revolutionary, in fact it's just the logical progression from reality TV, but it is about as new as anything in this most unoriginal world.

(For one thing, the C4 drama is likely to be crap, where as School Days is very good in a sort of psycho-porn way.)

For that matter, I recall an old PC game called Silent Steel or something that was basically an interactive show about some guy on a submarine. Three or four discs?

I sucked at it and always got everyone killed within the first half hour of the first disc, though. Bleh.

Either way, that statement is blatant bullshit, intentional or not.

The idea has been pitched around for several years now. However, most showrunners (such as Robert Wolfe, who worked on ST: DS9 and the early seasons of Andromeda) haven't been too keen on the idea, as they believe that it's far better (in terms of efficiency, creativity, and continuity) for the head writer to have primary control over the story.

But yeah, the point of "interactive TV" is for viewers to vote (online, etc.) on what they want to see next. The selections eventually lead to a single, unique ending.

I can see it working for a pre-planned branched storyline, but to do that for a drama might be too much work to be able to get a coherent script. For some reason, this reminds me of a Oujya(sp?) board <_<

Hmmm we had something like that once. New-years eve 2000 there was a special event, a so-called "dogme" movie here in Denmark - it was recorded live, and you could follow four lines of the story at once that folded into one whole story that evening - and I seem to remember that people who were watching also voted for what to happen along the way. My memory of it is a little foggy though.....

sounds kinda like it's putting real people in the middle of a "3 words" style game.....

*points to the results of that on this board.... recalls last time this was attempting with freinds... bondage bunnies got involved... don't ask."

What would be interesting, if they had the budget, would be to branch off and run two parallel shows if votes get really close between two choices, or maybe have a set of N running scenarios, and whenever a branch occurs, vote off enough scenarios to bring it back down to N.
