I want to ask something about translate text at this VN's mes file. I'm trying to translate a text with XOR the file with FF. But, text that appeared is something that i think it's not hiragana (i'm trying to translate it with ATLAS but it seems that ATLAS can't translate it).
please, can someone help me? Ah, I'm translate this just for reading purpose... |

decrypting: this guy XORs the .mes file with 0xFF, and he knows no japanese, and he can't translate the results with atlas, either. what is he doing wrong?
-- Before you translate you take the text out into a workable form, I suppose`-` |

Or maybe he means that he's getting mojibake?

did you ever think that maybe the scripts aren't just xored with $FF in dc2pc?

sorry if I have a wrong idea about this, I think that it's same like dcpc mes file and I read at some thread, It's encoded in Shift_JIS and offset by 0x20...

This thread made me lol like hell, seriously.
Just a few things to make it clear: * .mes files are BYTECODE scripts, not a plain-text scripts * only the _text_ parts in them are xored by 0xFF That means: * You cannot edit them in WinHEX easely * [Optional] You must write a tool for script "chunking" and autoxoring (as a temporary measure), try to edit several small parts, then recombine them into a script file and see what will happen (you'll be lucky if there are no jumps between bytecode sections) * You must write a tool, which will be capable of decompiling and compiling the scripts I guess, that's enough for now... Oh, and one more thing: Da Capo II P.C. files could possibly be compressed or encrypted (can't say for sure, since I only have original DC P.C.). Anyway, if you're going to translate this piece, you'll need qualified hackers in your team. Last edited by dsp2003; 2009-09-09 at 10:19. |

thanks for the explanation, I think I misunderstand that. :D
at the thread that I read, someone can extract the text with WinHEX manually... Well, I will learn more about this... thanks :) |

Just as a reminder, extracting and inserting the text manually for a full translation is like adding apples to a bucket two at a time for a total of three million times in order to figure out what two multiplied by three million is.
