Well yeah, it's late, but everyone needs a thread for Turkey day. Or maybe an anti-turkey day. Anyways, I had a weird frito-pie like dinner (it was actually more like taco-pie, but it was weird nevertheless), it was pretty good. I wonder why I feel more tired today, but maybe it's just because I miss my family seeing as how I've been at school for far too long. :)

Ahh, yes... Thanksgiving, that day when we all get together and praise the Lord that we finally managed to get rid of those killjoy Puritans on the good ship Mayfly. :P

Well... okay, so we don't. But we might have.

Mmm, pumpkin pie. Delicious stuff. The American recipe isn't quite as good as the English original, million pie, which uses melon or marrow instead of pumpkin, and has currants in too. But it's still nice at a pinch.

(What I don't understand is why Americans insist on having this big celebration, with masses of turkey, in November... only to repeat it almost exactly a month later at Christmas. Don't you get tired of turkey?)

Mayflower.

Don't you get tired of turkey?

Nope.

It's more the pumpkin pie thing, though. I got attacked Friday morning by my sister for not leaving her a peice of pumpkin pie for breakfast. Basically...

Me: (Wakes up at 6:00, goes eats two slices of pie, generally stays awake)

Sis: (Wakes up at 9, tries to get pie, no more.) "Where's the pie?"

Mom: Everybody ate it already.

Sis: Did bro eat some?!

Mom: Err, yeah..

Sis: (Storms off into living room) Bro! Did you eat pumpkin pie?

Me: Err, yeah... (Not looking up from TV)

Sis: YAAAH! (Starts kicking me)

Me: What the fu- what's wrong with you, woman! Cut that out! HELP! VIOLENCE! VIOLENCE!

Needless to say, we woke up the neighborhood. It wasn't even our neighborhood. >_<

Only for a piece of pumpkin pie... Oh God! :P

It wasn't even our neighborhood. >_<

Oh... so it isn't a great problem ^ ^;

We never get tired of turkey.

I mean, heck, we almost made them our national bird :)

That pie thing sounds good though. One a totally tangential note, one thing that we don't have out here though are currants. Blackcurrant flavored stuff is great, I'm not sure why this country never caught on.

Turkey has something in it, I can't remember whats its called, that makes people drowzy.
Well, most people.
It basically makes me drunk(or at least what I imagine it would be like), so after I eat some, I lock myself in my room for fear of what I'm going to do.

Therein lies the trick: some of us have ham for Christmas.

Or leftover turkey, depending on how much Goodwill Towards Men the cook has left in them...

I mean, heck, we almost made them our national bird :)
Except nobody listened to poor old drunk Franklin, so now we've got the freaking bald eagle. I mean, what the hell: turkeys CAN be goofy-looking, but it's better than some rotten, theiving scavenger. What's THAT supposed to say about the nation it represents?!?

Yea, but if you think about it, Now the turkey is a bird that has become incapable of breeding on its own naturally because of human genetic selection, and the species itself is no longer capable of avoiding extinction were it not for human interference.
...That and turkeys are just simply one of the stupidest animals alive.

...Now what would THAT say about our country?

Actually, that's utterly inaccurate. The strain of turkey bred for human consumption is very, very different from the wild turkey that inhabits most of the continental United States and parts of southern Canada. Wild turkey populations are FAR from extinct, or even endangered. Have a look for yourself. Also inaccurate. Wild turkeys are a very intelligent and cunning species as you can easily tell when (or more precisely, IF) you see them in the wild. They are extremely adept at evading predators (such as human hunters) and are able to forage and survive in very diverse habitat.

The bald eagle, by comparison, is a pretty pathetic bird - its looks are all it really has going for it. The bald eagle is more likely to be found eating something dead on the side of the road than you will see it soaring majestically across America's Sun-Kissed Plains™. And when they're not eating dead rotting stuff, you can find them harassing other birds - such as osprey or pelicans - until they drop their load of fish, which the eagle then steals. In fact, they rarely hunt for their own food. In behavior, they're fairly similar to the turkey vulture.

Eating roadkill and stealing from others - not very stunning, eh?
