I just checked out the trial version of MOONCHILDe, but haven't played that far into it. I liked the story telling near the beginning; it's done really nicely. However, I think the change into comedy was a bit abrupt and kinda killed some of the enjoyment of it.

Anonymous eroge main character, meet anonymous female eroge character!
Don't you mean "anoptic" instead of "anonymous"?

Now that you mention it... they *do* have names in that shot >_>;

*bump*
Just finished playing the demo. It seemed that sometimes the game just gets unexpectedly silly and that the contrast is sometimes good, when the main character is moody, but sometimes seems a bit unwarranted. The twist at the end was really nice, and is now making me want to play more ^^;

Now that you mention it, I've noticed a lot of Key characters have this problem in various CGs. It's like, "Yadda yadda, cute Misuzu, gao gao - HOLY GOD! WHERE DID YOUR EYE GO??" Maybe they're all based on Mr. Potato Head or something.

And in these screenshots, is that the scripting engine I think it is? ^^

It's not NScripter, if that's what you mean. At first, I thought it might be ADV32 (which is one of F&C's systems), but it isn't.

It's an apparently-new engine called Majiro, by some guy called 越畑声太 who appears to have managed so far to avoid having been mentioned on the Internet ever. My guess is that it's a custom job.

The ability to see the main character's thoughts and/or his cerzbavgvba is kind of neat for when you have to pick a choice. :)

I was thinking - especially looking at that first screenshot - that it might have been KAG3, but I guess not. Looks like we're still stuck with only NAIVE and F/SN.

It's by Naoki Hisaya. It has a good atmosphere and a great opening. So I'm trying to think why on earth it is I don't actually find myself particularly liking this demo.

I think it's probably the uniforms... I'm a fan of plainer clothes, and there just comes a point where you just have too many frills and ruffs and ribbons and laces to believe that any real girl would actually put up with wearing such a thing on a regular basis...

I see. I felt that I vaguely understood what is Haeleth's taste. ;)
I too kind of prefer her (http://www.siesta-soft.com/product/img/kanata.jpg) rather than .... No, It's about clothes. Clothes.

EDIT: I mean I like two-tone based or mono than multicolored clothes. Probably. Without any doubt.

凄い…

I agree on the uniforms -- why, even the ones depicted in something like Hanihani are bad enough (ridiculously puffed-out shoulders, anyone?); the ones here are just ...

Look on the bright side- they can't possibly be as bad as Muv-Luv's, can they?

Fear the shoulders.

You don't get introduced to her yet in the main part of the demo, but she's somewhere in the demo :)

うわーん! gp32さんにまでそんな風に言われるなんてっ!(笑) ていうか、"やっぱり"って何よ?(笑)

Well, in the case of the appearance, at least they are a thousand times decent than a game (http://www.marron.nu/sis_cube/pix/nana.jpg) I'm playing now. I can't say anything about shapes.

Importance is contents, pictures are also of course valuable though, and it looks we could hope to the game in this respect.

And those godawful BOWS! If any complaints could be squarely leveled at Hanihani, it would be the hideous uniforms.

Somehow, I found this scene very amusing to me, even if it was stereotypically anime humour:

0027 Kurumi: Uh...that's true. But...we can't just let you not say anything! That's what the corner is for!
0028 Kaoriko: I see. Then you should show me an example, Kurumi.
0029 Kurumi: A-an example? I've never heard of anyone needing an example for an introduction, but...
0030 Kurumi: OK, if you insist, I, Kurumi Saeki, will show you!
0031 Kaoriko: Oooooooh~
0032 Kurumi: Then here I go!
0033 Kurumi: Last name Saeki, first name is Kurumi. I do everything in the newspaper club! From [something] to [something], I'm the super girl that sometimes even delivers the papers!
0034 Kaoriko: Mmhmm
0035 Kurumi: Gender, female! My specialty is speed-eating! I'm currently a Junior at the Mahoroba School! My height is 159 centimeters, and I'm relatively healthy.
0036 Kaoriko: What about your weight and your three sizes?
0036 Kurumi: Weight is fourty--WHAT ARE YOU MAKING ME SAY??
0038 Kaoriko: Heeheeheee...sorry, sorry.

Post-Narcissu, I've finally had time to play this thing properly.
Initial impressions pretty much hold up: mostly gorgeous to look at (particularly Kanata), promising story, shame about the clothes.

And now for tonight's first corner, Haeleth's Traditional Look-What-I-Can-Do Corner~!

http://haeleth.net/temp/voila.jpg

A digital taiyaki to the first person who can explain to me why on earth Majiro's author seemed to think his fixed-key cyclic XOR "encryption" would be any more secure than the fixed-key cyclic XOR "encryption" that has completely and utterly failed to protect any of the other visual novel systems that have used it... -_-;

(Traditional disclaimer corner: no, I'm not planning to translate this, either the demo or the full game, any more than I've translated any of the other games I've done this to, and I don't even mean that in the special gp32 sense. And yes, I am still working on Kanon.)

zalas
2005-08-24, 15:42
I have a theory that the weak encryption is just there to thwart casual "hackers" and prevent them from spoiling themselves with the script <_<;

Haeleth
2005-08-24, 16:42
That's the most plausible theory I've heard, I must admit. Unless Japan has a DMCA-a-like to add legal teeth to trivial algorithms.

Majiro's a moderately interesting system, but nothing obviously special. Low-level stack-based VM. Why they don't just use the JVM or CLR instead of reinventing the wheel yet again, I'll never understand...

zalas
2005-08-24, 19:22
Well for one, I'd think a simple stack based VM would be a lot less taxing on resources. Furthermore, a Java VM would probably be useless for a console port anyway :/

Siesta has seen fit to put out a premium fan book of sorts just before the game itself is released on 9/12

Amongst other things, the book will feature three pre-stories, one of which is written by Hisaya Naoki.
Might be worth a look for those who enjoyed the demo.

...I'm sure you'll all buy it anyway, just to see if she really is wearing panties underneath that belt. =P
