The TV series is scheduled to air sometime in Autumn 2005.
The chara designs won't be done by any of Leaf's in-house artists, and they appear to have brought back the writers from the first series, which is a little concerning, but I'm fairly confident they won't mess up what is quite possibly their most popular franchise at the moment. With Utawarerumono TV planned as well, it seems like next season might be Leaf's chance to answer Air's success.

Apologies for the non-Key related post, but I thought it would be kind of news the residents of the board might be interested in - plus, it's kind of a slow news month, Key-wise =P.

Actually, I'm still waiting to see if they can at least keep the art close to the original game >_>

What can I say?

F**king win.

Now they just have to not F*** over Yuuki again, stick to the original art style, and not screw up the storylines.

...the first and last kind of contradict each other, though. ;O;

Wasn't the first ToHeart their most popular franchise when they animated that?

Isn't it just? Come on, Key, you could at least give us some more Tomoyo After teasers or something...

I wouldn't bank on keeping the original chara designs,
given that the Art Director/Chara designer was the one responsible for To Heart R ((((;゚Д゚)))ガクガクブルブル.

Wasn't the first ToHeart their most popular franchise when they animated that?

Yeah, that or Comic Party, but it's worth noting that To Heart 2 is the only real hit they've had in recent times (as opposed to the first TV series, which came out during their golden age). Given the lukewarm reaction to Tears to Tiara and their next title Kusari, I'd say this is one potential success Leaf could do with.

I must agree, though, that the prognosis is looking pretty poor at this point. I was sure that they would have learned from their mistakes, given the universal panning the first TV series copped, but then they go and put out To Heart R just last year, which manages somehow to be even worse - and now they're re-using the same writers as the humourless original...

On the other hand, they've hauled in the director from Comic Party, the best Aquaplus conversion to date, so not all hope is lost.

My personal theory (read: delusional hope) is that they've got an entirely new project in the works (which would explain Itaru's mysterious absence), but are holding back on announcing anything until it's almost done in light of the debacle with the long, long wait for Clannad in previous years. You have to wonder about where the studio is headed, if a spinoff after-story is the only thing in development.

Same here, but if I were one of the older Keyfans, I'd probably be waiting patiently.

AstCd2
2005-06-19, 05:01
It's interesting to note that there are comic designs along with the standard expressions, indicating that it'll at least be semi-comedy. A good sign, though I do worry about how they're going to handle the lack of any solid story - I'd prefer not to see another half-hearted attempt to allocate 1-2 episodes to each heroine.

Now, let's just see if they can make the TV opening as moelicious as the game opening <_<;

Well, obviously -- a lot of the bishoujo-game-related stuff on the English wikipedia is a bit lacking. Many of the articles seem to have been written based on hearsay rather than personal experience.

I occasionally toy with the idea of going in and replacing some of the nonsense with good stuff, fleshed out with translations of the more worthwhile articles from the Japanese wikipedia. But then I figure it'll only be vandalised anyway...

AFAIK, those Wikipediholics rectify any blatant errors made within two hours, if not less.

That said, this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetarian) has been standing here for a while now. Psst.

And speaking of Wikipedia.

[Kanon's] name, like other games released by Key, is derived from a musical term.

ehh...which specific games are we talking about here...?

AFAIK, those Wikipediholics rectify any blatant errors made within two hours, if not less.

For the more popular articles, perhaps. There was some idiot hanging around the Turn A Gundam article insisting that it's connected to the UC timeline because it has a pilot who likes painting his robots red.

Really.

That said, this has been standing here for a while now. Psst.
If you like, you'd have my permission to use (this includes quoting verbatim, adapting, and changing wholesale) any of the written material up on planetarian.insani.org (http://planetarian.insani.org/) in that wikipedia article.

ehh...which specific games are we talking about here...?
Let's see:

Key: could be a musical term (e.g. 'the key of f minor'). Not likely.
ONE ~to the radiant season~: not a musical term. Unless we're referring to the soundtrack of Radiant Silvergun. -_-
Kanon: the only overt musical term in the Key catalog.
AIR: an "air" can be a short musical piece (think J.S. Bach's Air sul G); unfortunately, that is *not* what's being referred to here.
Clannad: no musical reference, unless we're talking about that Celtic band. -_-
planetarian: give me a break. What's the reference supposed to be here? The Planets by Gustav Holst? -_-
Tomoyo After ~it's a wonderful life~: there have been numerous musical pieces entitled "it's a wonderful life", but again, *none* of them are the correct reference.

So. The moral of the story? In wikipedia as well as in the rest of English-speaking eroge fandom, almost *none* of the fanboys you see slavering over a game have ever played that game. And just as I'd have trouble respecting the viewpoints of someone who, say, would argue that Rainer Maria Rilke sucks (or is awesome) without ever having *read* his work ...

Haeleth
2005-07-02, 09:12
For the musical link with Clannad, see the first two posts from http://forums.haeleth.net/viewtopic.php?t=234&start=6, which summarize the theory that it's a reference to the band.

As far as Kanon is concerned, even that isn't necessarily a musical term (unless Key have said it is) - it could also mean canon in the continuity sense or the scriptural sense. Of course, there's, uh, another (http://www.addr.jp/kanon/) musical link... ;)

Subject: To Heart 2 Translation Patch?

There was a thread on 4chan in which it was announced that a
translation for To Heart 2 was at the 50% point. Seems like it uses 委員

The thread's gone, now, but I saved and uploaded the screenshots-

Some people were asking for details, and another posted a link to
insani.org, but I don't see any announcements or details at all on the
site.

A few more were saying that it was a hoax, but that was due to the game
not yet being available on the PC. 委員ちょすきすきー and the fact that
it'd be pointless for someone to waste time screwing around with the
game data just to fool people were pointed out.

AIR: an "air" can be a short musical piece (think J.S. Bach's Air sul G); unfortunately, that is *not* what's being referred to here.
Well, a crazy idea did hit me, and I was wondering if the structure of the script in AIR is supposed to be related to the musical structure of the second movement "Air" of Bach's Orch. Suite #3. As far as I know... the script in the game is roughly A B A(shortened and then variation on it). However, upon listening to Air, it doesn't really match the structure. *shrug* Unless you want to count the beginning two parts of Bach's piece Air as the recap of DREAM scenario, the middle part as Misuzu+Haruko's life together, and then the final resolution of the song as the resolution of the scenario XD

The 'phase' notes that the PC version of TH2 will come with
- Additional character(s)
- 2 new minigames
- Scenario additions and revisions
with a release date sometime this Japanese winter.

I note that they neglect to mention the addition of any H-scenes, much like the re-conversions of Comic Party and To Heart. Sadly, with the current state of the business, that might make licensors less likely to license it.

A little from MP on the TV series direction:

From the commentary provided by Aquaplus's Mochidzuki Yuutarou (Dengeki Animaga) and Director Sudou Norihiko (Dengeki G's Magazine):

This time around, the anime is based upon the staff's idea of bringing out all of the heroines. Because we can see that the connections between the heroines in the To Heart 2 game are weaker than in the previous title, we decided, after some contemplation, to change the main character for each episode, as well as the ending credits.

In other words, we abrogate the format of 'the girls seen from the point of view of one boy, who forms the crux', and turn it into 'one boy, seen from the point of view of many different girls'. It'll be somewhat of an omnibus about our heroines, running from March to May.

But of course, that by itself would be uninteresting, so amongst other things, there are also episodes where we gather all of the heroines, as well as, it seems, an additional way to enjoy the broadcast. Furthermore, apart from the main story, we're also preparing plenty of other story developments for the media mix1.

Media Mix1: The marketing practice of launching a franchise in a certain medium (such as television), accompanied by a simultaneous launch of the franchise in parallel mediums (with drama CDs, manga, console and PC games, and so on)

I guess I was right that relationships in-between the To Heart 2 girls were kinda weak or non-existent. They barely interact with each other, if anything at all...

So, it's gonna be like Sentimental Journey? (12 girls, one episode focus each girl) Or maybe a format similar to the first To Heart, which is IMO so much better than ~Remember my Memories~?

Upon distribution of the demo with the release of Leaf's new game Kusari, it's become clear that the port of TH2 to PC will indeed contain both ero and voice.
