~It's a Wonderful Life~</a>

<span title="Let us go searching for those treasured things in life">「人生の宝物を探しにいこう━━」</a>
</center>

Details
- Release date: 2005
- Designation: 18+
- No word on whether it'll have voice, though given that this is Key, probably not.

Production
- Contrary to speculation, Key hasn't picked up either Goto-P or CO2A.
- The art will be done by Fumio, best known for his work on Sorauta (http://frontwing.jp/product/sorauta/index.html) and the new Pia Carrot (http://www.fandc.co.jp/mainstage.html) game.
- Scenario-wise, it'll be Maeda Jun (who wrote the original Tomoyo scenario) and Kashida Leo, a new name.
- As usual, music will be handled by Orito Shinji, Togoshi Magome and Maeda Jun.

Plot
Loosely speaking, the story revolves around Tomoya and Tomoyo's life in the summer vacation after the events in Clannad, together with her half-sister, brother, and his ex-girlfriend.

Thoughts
It's got Maeda's favourite 'family' theme written all over it, but I don't think we'll be seeing anything along the lines of the stories in Clannad. It seems this really will be little more than a fan disc.

Art looks pretty good; Sorauta was highly regarded, too. Shame it's not Itaru, but there you go. (Whatever happened to her, anyway?)

They're apparently marketing it as an ADV rather than a fandisk, so hopefully there'll be something reasonably meaty in there, even if not on the grand Clannadic scale. Unless there are really enough fans out there who'd fork over 5,800 yen just to look at official Tomoyo porn... O_o;;

Looks very nice.
I like Fumio's Tomoyo's look more than the original one. Good thing that she doesn't look like under-age gal.

So Tomoyo is the main character just like what the rumor/news said.

I hope Key's H-scene scripts has been improved...

am all for H, bring it on... although.... what month?! and yes, she does look more mature now (hopes that the other girls are involved in the H scens as wall.... excipt for Tomo).

hey, seems that key is realy going to go for 800x600 graphics in their new titles... am for one glad for that :). And seeing the system requirment... me think the game might including some animations (not actualy anime, but more like moving images... in a nice way).

... me hope for another game... this time for the twins :).

Central character, not protagonist. That's Tomoya again, like in Clannad (this follows on from Tomoyo's scenario, not the "true ending").

Relegated to drawing box art, it seems.

Well, if you've decided to purchase an 18+ game anyway, you could certainly do worse than one featuring Clannad's foremost エロイン =P

And seeing the system requirment... me think the game might including some animations (not actualy anime, but more like moving images... in a nice way).

They've certainly got the technology. The question is just whether they'd actually be bothered...
Speaking of which, I see there's no mention of those RPG elements we were promised.

... me hope for another game... this time for the twins :).

I'd prefer for them to begin working on their next major title, but going by the staff diary, it doesn't seem like Maeda really knows where Key is headed. Let's hope this isn't the beginning of the end for the industry's most prolific studio.

The ともともコンビ was bad enough, but you've really got to start questioning Maeda's naming sense when he adds another character called 'Tomo'...

I'm interested in seeing how the game will play out. It would be nice to have moving images for once, but that just doesn't seem like Key's style.

I haven't gotten around to playing Clannad yet myself, so I'm not sure how it relates. :( having work to do is evil.

Wonder how long it will take before someone starts trying to patch this new game.

This probably equals one of the main reasons I'm going to take Japanese while I'm in college. >.< all these great games I can't play!

YAR! YAR I SAY!

well, If i do learn enough, I'll probably try my hand at posting translation .txt files for patchers or those whom are interested.

Not to burst your bubble, but you might have to wait a while longer than Japanese 101 to start translating or reading games easily. I'm taking the language at the second-year level right now at my university, and there's still so many speech forms I haven't learned, complex vocabulary I haven't memorized, and those accursed kanji still haunt me in my sleep. In fact, it was only at the end of JPN202/beginning of JPN203 that I began to even think I could possibly carry on the most rudimentary conversation with a native speaker. Of course, your class could work a lot differently, and I don't mean at all to talk you out of the idea, but first year of Japanese might not be enough to give you the skills to successfully play through games, especially of this genre.

Doom-and-gloom aside, it really is a fun and rewarding language to study, and if you can stick with it despite the inevitable stumbling blocks of "I can only count to 10 in kanji and there are still thousands more to memorize" or "I hate these past negative conjugations! Does this rule apply to adjectives, or just verbs of the ru-column?"

The point of this long-winded post that no doubt makes me look more knowledgeable than I really am is this: Take Japanese in college, it is an excellent language to learn, but don't go in expecting to speak fluently or read games by your third or even sixth term, and don't get discouraged because of this.

And should you ever lose your way on campus, the Japanese department can often be found by following the sounds of wailing and the gnashing of teeth.

I'm aware. I'm not expecting to fully understand it for a while. But that doesn't mean I don't want to try!

and apparently my college's JP courses are supposed to be more advanced than normal bc they are purposefully trying to root people that want to learn just bc of anime out? O.o

or so my friend tells me... but he's taking chinese. and still, anything would be better than my first time playing a game like this:

Tokimeki Memorial SNES ROM... facial expressions alone were what i went on...

Makes sense. I gather it's quite a problem at some places. Lucky for you it's not just anime you're interested in, eh? ;)

Seriously, it's a great language to learn, as long as you approach it realistically. As long as you're thinking of it as a language to learn, rather than a way of not having to wait for fansubbers, you'll do fine.

Very interesting. I have a few friends who are first year japanese language students, and they tell me about the number of people who are in there because of "anime"... but why do they need to make them more advanced? Just let those students have their fun, natural selection will run its course as they see that knowing a handful of phrases from their favorite shows won't help them pass the class...

I think the idea is they make it more advanced so that only if you're truly commited to learning the language, will you not watch your GPA plunge from A to C. I.E. not like High school Spanish.

Man, I wish they did that at my school. I almost quit Japanese first year on account of people like that. -_- They really do almost all tend to drop out by the end of the first year, but still, sitting through three terms of "Sensei, what does [insert random Dragonball Z or Inu Yasha phrase] mean?" definately makes you start wondering if the pages of your textbook could be used to slit your own wrists...

Heh heh .. I remember a friend telling me of a lecturer in uni who informed the class of his plans to have lunch at a Japanese restaurant so that the students can practice their newfound knowledge at the waitresses with bewildered/confused faces.
At the end of the announcement, one of the lady students screamed out "Yay! We get to go out for Yum Cha!". This was followed by a few moments of absolute silence, then the entire class roared with laughter.

Curse my high school for not offering Japanese 1, 2, and 3. Curse the rival high school for actually offering those classes. In fact, I'm stuck in spanish, which isn't particularly useful or interesting.

I'm thinking about taking Japanese in college. About how many years before I can actually start understanding these games? BTW, I'm Chinese, so Kanji comes easily.

... CLANNAD h-game? Well I just can't forgive Key for trying to shove h-scenes down us... the ones in Kanon were just downright horrid and had no point in the story.

that was like my high school. if you wanted to do any language courses you had to do it in another school and the closest was an hour's travel by train.

though I am considering picking up Japanese as electives next year for uni, mainly as I do not wish to do just one unit for the semester :P

BTW, I'm Chinese, so Kanji comes easily.

I guess it all depends on how good you are at memorizing vocabulary, then. I consider Japanese grammer to be much simpler than the broken rules and exceptions of English, so for me the problem lies mainly in the memorization of the vocabulary (not so bad) and kanji (the bane of my existance). If you've got kanji down pretty well, I'd say that will be pretty invaluable later on. I'm not sure how all colleges work, but we didn't really start learning kanji until JPN103, and then it was really basic stuff like numbers and days of the week. I didn't have Japanese in high school either, so it is something you can pick up in college, and most 100-level classes will assume you've had no foreknowledge of the language. If you at all have a choice of teachers, try to pick a native Japanese speaker - the difference between learning from someone with an academic knowledge of the language and someone who grew up speaking it is enormous.

Again, these are just my experiences, and I'm in no way professing to be even remotely knowledgeable about learning Japanese in a college environment. ^_^

I think I'd be seriously interested in picking it up - price and available funds at the time being the main factors. I just can't help but think that there might be some limited first-print goodies or at least cover art like they did for Clannad, which really has my interest.

Of course, that I'll have managed to pick up Clannad by then goes without saying.

At 5,800 yen, I'm expecting a fairly decent effort in terms of text volume.
That's three quarters of what new titles typically cost (and a great deal more expensive than Planterian), and I don't see it having any features other than the AVG component (as fan discs typically do in order to pad out the contents).

Is it too much to hope for a Leaf-style Mah-jong game?

It appears that Tomoyo After will have voices for all characters apart from the protagonist, which is somewhat of a first for Key. Given the classification, though, it's probably safe to assume they're not using Kuwashima Houko for Tomoyo.

Disappointingly, Maeda's idea of a mini-RPG doesn't seem to have made the final release, so fans will have to wait a little longer for Fuuko Master II.

The November edition of PUSH brings with it the promise of a Tomoyo After movie (presumably the one from C67), wallpaper, the theme song, and a playable demo. With a cover like that, it does appear that Maeda wasn't kidding when he said he wasn't pulling Key out of the 18+ market =P

The cast has also been announced:

Tomoyo: Isshiki Hikaru
Takafumi & Kanako: Suzumori Chisato
Tomo: Sasaki Akari

Here's what I can make of the theme song, with a lot of help from http://diarynote.jp/d/63962/_0_50.html <_<

Note: Please pardon the shoddy translation; there were a few parts where I was rather confused. I may also have inadvertently added in a few bits of meaning that were implied in the original. Corrections are welcome ^_^

That being said, the chorus is really nicely done, IMO, and I think I hear Shinji Orito's influence on the music in the very beginning parts. <_<

「Light colors(short ver)」
どうにもできない事があっても 最後まで目を閉じず
Even if there are things for which I can do nothing about, I shall never shut my eyes even until the end
見守ってゆく勇気 それは遠い誰かの
The courage to watch over someone, that belongs to someone far away
持ち物で僕じゃない
And thus, it is not I

ようやく向かい風はないんだけど 長すぎる前髪が
Even if there is hardly any wind blowing upon me, the too-long front of my hair brushes against my face
気になってどうにも 心が落ち着かない
I worry about it but there is no way for me to calm down
勇気とはほど遠くて
That thing called courage is too far away

明日はもっとうまくやってみせる
I shall do it better tomorow and show you
だからもう一度だけ信じて
So believe in me just once more

プリズム落とした 世界の色の褪せ
Even if the prism falls, the colors of the world fade away
こんな灰色に すべてうずもれても
And everything is buried within this ashen monochrome
僕ならばできる 例え一人だって
I can do this, even by myself
未来にまた塗り替えてみせるよ
I shall repaint the world and show you

Those would be bangs, wouldn't they? ;)

At least that's what I assume 前髪 would be referring to...

Hadaka-apron? Ick.

I think I can begin to guess why Hinoue Itaru isn't drawing this one. She probably didn't want to produce the illustrations they needed...

Given the 'quick buck' style of marketing Key's pulling on this one (it being a lot easier to produce sex than good writing when it comes to having something to sell), I'm guessing that whatever the official line may be, they're doing this one just to recover some of the 4-year development costs sunk into Clannad.

If that line of reasoning holds true, though, the next title (which we now know will feature Itaru) ought to be an all-ages plot-based title. I'll be very interested to see whether this is the case, given that President Baba over at VA was undoubtedly underwhelmed by how their last (full-size) all-ages game did.

That said, Key has had a year (http://forums.haeleth.net/viewtopic.php?t=120&start=0) to write this, so I'll be sorely disappointed if the writing isn't up to standard, however much a secondary role it plays to the ecchi.

Second on that.

I have those artwork books of Kanon and Air with Itaru's comments on
each pics, but the comments were not really elaborate when it came to sexy pics...

Thought if this was some kind of a harassment to our dear artist :P

Well, I'm sure the ecchi writing will be up (?) to the usual standard, at least. :P

AHAHA! Actually, I think that could possibly be some sort of improvement on the story - I know I'd get a kick out of finding THAT sort of scenario in an H-game. Do you remember what the link to the transcript of that conversation was, for those who haven't read it?

So I'm a bit divided here. On the one hand: new Key game, reasonable price, my first ever chance to snag one at release. On the other: 18+, considerable evidence pointing to ecchi-over-story focus, creepy Pedo Bear doppleganger.

I swear, if this sucks I'm buying Fate/hollow ataraxia. THAT will show them!

Moon Phase strikes again with a summary of an interview with Jun Maeda, which is quite informative:
Development is nearly complete. All the writing's done. All that's really left is to finish the soundtrack (there are one or two tracks left to do, out of about 20 planned).
While it says on the homepage that the game isn't related to Clannad, that's a legal fiction to satisfy the EOCS [the organisation that regulates adult games in Japan]. In practice it's okay to think of this as a continuation of Clannad.
The first part of the story will feel a bit like a fandisk, but towards the end it's going to get pretty serious.
Tomoyo After will be nothing like as long as Clannad.
The Key staff were all given time to go off and do their own thing after Clannad was finished, and Tomoyo After is what Maeda wanted to make. He wasn't really able to get the other Key staff to help, which is why the art and so on aren't being done by the usual people. Okay, the number of sex scenes he's putting in there probably is another reason.
This isn't the story of Tomoya and Tomoyo, it's wholly Tomoyo's story. It's not going to be about them settling down and having kids.
The character Kanako is a kind of successor to Clannad's Sunohara (laughs). She doesn't have any H scenes.
Takafumi is a tennen-boke type [can't think how to translate it offhand, but think Minagi and Kotomi]
The other heroines from Clannad won't be appearing. In fact, other characters in general are basically limited to a few appearances from Tomoya's father.
There aren't going to be any separate afterstories for the other heroines, either. [Aw, I was looking forward to "Fuuko After". :(]
They're hoping to get the next work [presumably the one Itaru's working on] out by the end of next year.
And damn, I wish Key would release that Tomoyo After demo online, instead of only giving it out to magazines that I can't easily buy. :(

One of Korean Key fan have played Tomoyo After Demo version and wrote a quick review on site where I visit a lot.

http://www.myimgs.com/data/pkim/TA0.jpg

KEY REALLY WANTED TO MAKE 18禁 CLANNAD GAME..... He could tell when he was playing the game for 5 minute.

There IS ero-scene in Demo version, not too long after the game starts....

Voice acting is okay he says. Every characters except Tomoya have their own voice.

Characters:

http://www.myimgs.com/data/pkim/TA1.jpg
To**ya...

http://www.myimgs.com/data/pkim/TA2.jpg
Kanako. She is a female version of Sunohara. She can be looked as his replacement...

http://www.myimgs.com/data/pkim/TA3.jpg
Um, Tomoyo's brother Takafumi. (Pikachu?? Shouldn't they censor that out?)

http://www.myimgs.com/data/pkim/TA4.jpg
Tomoyo. Her side view looks pretty similar to her Clannad look.. Other than that, she looks like a different person to me.

Story:
It starts like a fan-disc game like story, then it gets dark. (just like all the other Key games...)

According to him, the game doesn't seem long, but not too short thankfully..
