View Full Version : Kanon/AIR Magic: The Gathering Life Counters?

It started innocently enough. On a trip to the local mall, I went to the trading card shop to break a twenty to fives to play DDR (changed to In The Groove). So while the salesperson relucantly said yes and grabbed the fives from the cash register, I looked down, expecting to see rares and instead, I find "Imported Life Counters From Japan"...over twelve neat stacks of Kanon and AIR life counters.

I initially bought Ayu and Misuzu (http://img69.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img69&image=dsc025773xw.jpg), though there were others, such as (in no particular order) Shiori, Mai, Makoto, Nayuki, Kano, and (I think) Uraha (Uraha's card was labelled "Limited Edition"...strange how Kanna and Ryuuya were absent).

Although seven dollars per card/lifecounter thing is a tad pricey...I'm anime-driven. Sue me.

Any thoughts on this?

Funny, how can little multicolored gems look like characters from AIR? I don't get it.

I see two cards with Ayu and Misuzu labelled "Gather Life Counter" and with a foil VisualArt's sticker on them...

Maybe we're talking about the wrong kind of counter?

That's what I am seeing too o_O

Uh... Which gems are you talkiing about again?

He's referring to the little coloured plastic stone things used in game like Magic: The Gathering that are called counters.

In fact, that what I thought you meant at first too.

2005-03-24, 22:58
I'd buy it.

Oh I see. Sorry then. >_<

I do not have any knowledge on trading card game. -_-

They're not selling deck cases along with them?

I've got a deck case featuring Misuzu, and it has that foil Visualarts sticker on its packaging. The sideboard seperator features a mini-misuzu.

Apologies for the low-res. I don't posses a digital cam.

Let me hazard a guess...those photos...are taken with your handphone camera? lol... but well, it seems like Air has infiltrated MTG already...=.=" maybe we'll be seeing Clannad or maybe Planetarian next...

Spiritsnare

Planetarian? MTG?

I'd think that a post-apocalypse thing wouldn't really fit into the scheme of MTG stuff...

I didn't see any Key-related deckboxes and/or sideboard seperators, either. Hell, that's the first time I saw a sideboard seperator in the first place XD Nice box, though...I need to find one :3

Somehow those counters elicit memories of me playing with the Pokemon Card game, with it's blue and green counters.

:shudder:

Well, if we're on the topic of AIR and MtG, lets have some fun with photoshop! XD

:O :O :O NEW CARD FACE OMSDFDASIUEWRCOE

This must be rectified. ::sets to work on MTG SetEditor::

//MTG Geek Mode activated

-Yukito should be "Legendary Human Traveller" and have his mana cost balanced to 3UU because of the control ability
-Kano is way too overpowered for her mana cost and should be 1UUU
-Michiru is overpowered for her abilities and should have trample and doublestrike taken away; first strike may be added at the cost of one more R
-ROFL at Minagi's okaasan.
-Kannabi no Mikoto is overpowered (just Terror the hell out of her and YAY 8/2 Akroma poser!), cost should be 3WWW
-Ryuuya and his "Survived" counters are awkward...should rename to cripple counters or something.
-Uraha is ingenious, but as mentioned, hoses on swarm decks.
-Shiraho's rules text is awkwardly worded. My rewording:

Shiraho - 2WW
Creature - Human Legend

When a spell or ability would cause you to lose the game, you may sacrifice Shiraho to remove it from the stack. (Any effect of the spell or ability is negated.)
1/4

-Potato's rules text must be updated...there's no point to your opponent piko'ing unless you want a laugh. Oh, and rules text is a tad bit too long, but this is a joke card anyway...

Potato - WW
Creature - "Alien"

When Potato comes into play, say "Piko-piko" as fast as you can and as many times as you can in one breath without stopping. Put X piko counters on Potato, where X is the number of times you said the aforementioned phrase. (Half of a "piko-piko" does not count.)

Remove X Piko counters from Potato: Choose target opponent. That opponent has to say "piko-piko-piko" as fast as (s)he can and as many times as (s)he can in one breath without stopping X times. If (s)he fails, your opponent chooses one - sacrifice one creature at random; or lose 10 life.

If anyone cares...what do you guys think? :3

Hehe, the MTG cards are cool, and me being a MTG geek, I'd love to make a all-anime deck.

10 life's abit drastic. Cut it back to 5 or 4.
Then again, in true joke card fashion, maybe 5½ or 4¾ life :P

....

Personally, I think that the card should read (Or at least the second part of the Potato)

For the next X times target opponent would speak due to game related purposes, he must instead say "Piko-Piko". At any time, target opponent may choose to discard a card or to pay 2 life to nullify the effect for that phrase.

Notes on latest three:

They're all bad-grammared. Ugh. But...

One Life to Replace One: Rewording.

If a creature you control would be sent to the graveyard from play, you may sacrafice another creature to remove the effect or attack that send that creature to the graveyard from the stack.

The Wing's Burden: Rewording... and better grammar. And probably a penalty if they can't do either.

At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player must discard a card from his or her hand and sacrafice a permanent that the player controls. If the player is unable to do this, he takes 2 damage instead.

Ryuuya's Meddling: Uh, it reeks of counterspell. But compared to the original counterspell, the mana cost counterbalances.

I actually found a great load of doujin KanonMTG cards a long time ago <<

*searches it* Aw crap, it's down (http://216.239.63.104/search?q=cache:f5OcFTxxLaMJ:f1.aaacafe.ne.jp/~korya/kelp/mtg/kanon/KanonMTG.html+KanonMTG&hl=ja) :(

All hail www.waybackmachine.org , though the pictures are lost to the mists of time.

For the AIR cards, its interesting to note that the creator also chose kill Misuzu off slowly

Tap, eat a taiyaki: Put a taiyaki counter on Ayu Tsukimiya. If the taiyaki was in a brown paper bag, you used mittens to grab and eat it, and you take a picture of yourself eating it in that cute Ayu-ish way, you win the game.

If the taiyaki had a filling other than red bean, you lose the game. :O (Don't try to cheat...)

Fixed. >D

Akiko also needs an addendum.

UGUU: Spread some jam (Preferably, The Jam) on target card. (You have to remove the card protector, first.) The card is removed from the game.

"Oh, you wanted a midnight SNAAAACK?"

Minagi's rules text is hilarious. I should really get around to rendering these cards soon.

Expect them by...next weekend at the latest...:D

Yeah, those are all Kanoso references... the thought of anyone actually playing any of those cards boggles the mind. (I like the Arch-demon one.)

Bump.

Today at the same mall in the same store, I found that they had Kanon and AIR deckboxes in stock, with sideboard seperators.

Wah, and I had already spent my money on games of DDR...x.x

New cards!

Cutie Sisters and A-Kun and gang SEEM alright. It's not like A-Kun's ability's really that good anyways.

Cutie Sisters should cost one more colorless for being non-targetable.
