If you want the Windows version of Fate/Stay Night, then be sure to read Relentlessness' guide to importing at http://www.relentlessness.com/blog/2010/10/a-guide-to-importing-japanese-merchandise-part-1-general-principles-things-to-consider . The same site has a number of similar useful articles. If you're willing to put in some effort, then you may be able to find and ship an import copy for a lower price.

Looked around for a bit, not really good pricing. I'm surprised they don't have a budget release
Second hand pricing is way up there as well.

Realta Nu download version was the best I could find, but that's a digital copy

pricey... These are all second hand, http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/search?ei=UTF-8&p=stay+night&oq=&slider=0&tab_ex=commerce&auccat=22844

PS2 version roughly this price http://www.animate-onlineshop.jp/pn/%E3%80%90PS2%E3%80%91Fate/stay+night+-%E3%83%95%E3%82%A7%E3%82%A4%E3%83%88/%E3%82%B9%E3%83%86%E3%82%A4%E3%83%8A%E3%82%A4%E3%83%88-%5B%E3%83%AC%E3%82%A2%E3%83%AB%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BB%E3%83%8C%E3%82%A2%5D+PlayStation2+the+Best/pd/77943/

I saw PS2 versions at a few other places. Also might be worth checking ebay

Paletweb has it for a reasonable price http://www.paletweb.com/selectpage.asp?code=0000703

If you are new to importing by Proxy, I recommend Yokatta shopping service (http://yokattaweb.jp/). Much easier to use than Tenso.com and roughly the same price. Also you get to choose which shipping service to use. Tenso only do EMS I believe

The Realta Nua DL release is split into three parts, each for 2800 yen - in other words, it's not going to be much cheaper (or rather, is more expensive) than the original after you pay for all of it. Only buy it if you're crazy like me.

It would be nice if there was an easier and cheaper way of getting this game. I'd really love it if Type-Moon released an official overseas version. Well, until then, I'll simply have to save up enough money to import it.

(To be perfectly honest, although it is more expensive than I'd like to pay, I've seen a lot, lot worse.)

I don't know about cheaper, but you could just buy this game from J-List

Although it's too late to be of any use for the OP at least others will know where to look for the game.
