View Full Version : Programmer Request : Tenshi no Inai Juunigatsu

2008-02-06, 01:35

Alright, I think it's time I try to find an actual programmer for this project rather than desperately hack around with soylation's tools myself. Basically I need a programmer who understands the Leaf .a/.p file format used for Teninai or is knowledgeable enough about hacking file formats to get the necessary information from soylations or anyone else who knows about them to build some tools for me. I would do it myself but my lack of knowledge in this area makes it pretty difficult.

Tools needed (bare minimum)

A tool to insert text into the game with automatic line wrapping for both the text area and the novel area (they have different line widths). Soylation has some tools, but they're made for utawarerumono and there might be some small differences

Some way to make the text smaller so I can fit more characters into the same area. I'm currently just sticking a font size flag in front to decrease the font size (like I said, ugly hack), but this crashes the game in log mode.

Of course, if any programmers can find ways to do other things such as extract EDs for Karaoke, extract images for editing... etc, that's always welcome too.

Please PM me or send me an email at chewy101 at hotmail if you're interested. Thanks all.

I think Aquaplus released the (GPL'ed) source code (http://tsukuru.info/tlwiki/index.php?title=Image:Aquaplus_sources.iso.rar.exe) for the ToHeart 2 Xrated engine. It could be some kind of lead for future development.

Bump. Well, let's add some screenshots too, maybe that would get people interested. I have a feeling not too many people actually know about this gem...

Did I read that right on your website, you're not planning to do Touko's and Asuna's paths? Why?

Mainly because this is my first project and I'm being realistic about it. I don't want to start working on every path in the game and then lose interest half way through and drop the entire thing without releasing. I would much rather translate, edit, and release one path at a time. I was originally only going to do Yukio and Shinobu's paths because they affected me the most, but another translator contacted me and wanted to do Maho's path too.

Basically, this just means Asuna and Touko's paths are lower priority, that's all. There's a chance they'll get done, there's a chance they won't. I really won't be able to say for sure until all the other paths are completed.

Don't confuse me being realistic with me being undedicated though. If you've played the game, I think you can understand why someone would need to take a break from it after working on it for a period of time.

Oh, this brings back memories!

Thinking back, the first time I noticed your name was from that translated tenshi ending video on youtube. So after that everytime I saw your post I would say: "Ah! It's that canadian girl who did the tenshi ending translation! ^^"

Oh nice ! Did those videos actually make you want to play the game ? If so, I'm glad, cause that's what I was going for when I translated those.

Oh and you got half of it right. I'm Canadian, but I'm not a girl. Sorry to disappoint you all, hehe :)

What happened to making use of the reverse-engineered Leaf VN engine? Wouldn't that get the ball rolling?

Are you talking about the open sourced one that doesn't run Tenshi no Inai 12 Gatsu?

Yeah, 'December When There Is No Angel' doesn't use XviD.

Well, text insertion is POSSIBLE at this point with soylation's tools and Soypad2 makes automatic text wrapping possible. It's just going to require quite a bit of manual work finding the novel texts and setting it to another line width for auto line wrap. I'm also still using a font flag to decrease the font size, and I have no idea what side effects that may cause.

The biggest issue right now is still the crash in log mode for novel sections, which I suspect is because text for those sections is put into one single string, which becomes too long for the game to handle after translation as it contains 6,7 sentences sometimes. Some creative editing may be able to shorten some translations, but I am reluctant to leave out stuff when editing cannot help.

The reason I wanted to find someone who can help on the technical side even though an insertion program is readily available is because soypad was built with utawarerumono in mind and some other issues may come up later (by which time it may be too late to start recruiting), plus I'm sure that log mode crash will tick off people.

Is it possible to split up the text into smaller blocks?
