View Full Version : onscripter won't run
I downloaded 3 different versions of onscripter, and each one won't run. When I double-click the Program icon in the folder, it starts, then automatically closes about a millisecond later. No error windows, no possible reasons for closing, no anything. As a matter of fact, my Windows XP Home Edition computer won't run anything that uses DOS or C++, not just onscripter. The only thing it runs that has anything to do with C++ or DOS is Command Prompt. Any possible explanations/solutions? Please and thank you.
What were you trying to do with it? Did you just unzip it and open it up?
ONScripter does nothing if you just open it up and exhibits a behavior similar to the one you are describing. For it to do anything, you need to put it into the directory of an NScripter game or provide it the necessary resource files from a game to read and play. Otherwise, by itself, it does nothing.
Thanks, but how do I put ONScripter into the game's directory? I can't even open the game up, because the computer doesn't recognize it.
Which game are you trying to play? The game should have either a file called nscript.dat or a file called 0.txt, and at least one .nsa or .sar file. You need to put onscripter.exe in the same folder before you launch it.
When you say that nothing involving C++ works, I think you've misdiagnosed the problem. Most of Windows itself is written in C++, as is most software you probably have.
The game that I'm trying to play is Narcissu (english), and the only file I find is a TORRENT file. I tried putting the file in the same folder as ONScripter and its codecs, with no improvement. I must be missing something.
You do not need to download ONScripter separately to play Narcissu. You just need the installer. Since you don't seem to be familiar with bittorrent you can get the file here. http://visualnews.net/ Click Doujin Games in the sidebar--> click Narcissu--> click the first HTTP link in the set (under Narcissu [insani+Haeleth] (Win32))
Thanks, I did what you said, and loved Narcissu. It made me cry! But... what about the problem I have? I know that there are games out there that don't have HTTP. (refer to above for the foresaid problems)
Most localized English titles can be downloaded via HTTP from the VisualNews (http://visualnews.net) download sections (look in the left column under the "Downloads" heading.
For downloading torrents, you'll need a BitTorrent client. There's the "official" one available at bittorrent.com (http://www.bittorrent.com), but I'd recommend μTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/) for its lack of bloat. The .torrent file itself isn't the game; it just tells the BitTorrent client program how to download it.
Also, keep in mind that some things available via BitTorrent are not being legally distributed. Check to make sure that the games you're downloading aren't commercial titles before you download them. (If they are, you can get them legally from places like Himeya (http://www.himeyashop.com/).)
Thank you all so much!
